It is nice to see someone stand up for his religious and political beliefs.

If he wanted his employees to wear muslim burka’s and quote the Koran the ACLU would be all over them for refusing him a franchise

As it stands, they are correct- it is THEIR name he wants to use, but he does not want to follow all their rules

I hope he starts his own franchise and makes a million, though

If he owned the establishment, I would say bully for him.

He bought the franchise. Sonny’s still sets the rules.

If Sonny’s policy is to sell liquor, then he should abide by the policy. As for the religious shirts, that is not something sanctioned by Sonny’s.

Folks, as Christians we have to be reasonable. When you’re affiliated with a parent organization, you need to abide by that parent organization’s rules.

If this guy had enough money to buy the Sonny’s franchise establishment, he probably had enough money to open his own establishment or buy one where he could set his own policies. IMO, that’s what he should have done.

I don’t think Sonny’s acted improperly here. Sonny’s has a right to establish it’s own polices. A good Christian should abide by them, or avoid situations where they would have to.

When will our society come back to the basics?

God
Family
Country
Job
Other interests

That’s the way it’s going to be, folks, has been too. The politically correct crowd has man-handled the laws.

I hope this owner takes action.

It is nice to see someone stand up for his religious and political beliefs.

It is nice to see both sides stand up for what they think is what's best for their businesses. If you want to make your living off of someone else's name, they have a steak in how you run the business. In this case the restaurant owner was able to get out of the franchise contract. Both sides were right, they just weren't compatible.

It was because of the alcohol. I don’t blame them...alcohol produces a lot of revenue. If you are looking at it from a business, then it makes sense to find someone who would rather sell alcohol.

“owner Bill Davis refused to sell beer, wine or liquor in the family restaurant.”

I can see his point about hard liquor, but maybe Bill never read in his Bible that Jesus conjured up some very fine wine for a wedding in Cana. By that very act of creating wine for the guests, Jesus was sanctioning at least a temperate use of it. The Baptists will never convince me it was only grape juice!!!

If anyone has stock in Sonny’s, I think I would sell it now. There are several Sonny’s in my area, and offering alcohol, especially anything stronger than beer just wouldn’t play here in the deep, deep South.

Sonny’s has always been a family BBQ resturant with a fantastic salad bar. I can’t see how cocktails with a BBQ sandwich and fries go together.

Win for Davis....loser for Sonny’s

We can debate all the “Rights” issues....but on a business standpoint....Mr Davis scores the win. Sonny’s lost a good franchise, and one that would still make money by not selling booze.

Like most restaurant chains, Sonny’s is slipping. People do not eat at the barbecue places like they used to (at least outside the traditional South).

And, what really got my attention....is that a barbecue restaurant would be upset with people wearing religious clothing and US flags.

I think Maurice in South Carolina is probably laughing his a** off about that one ;-)

Someone should tell Sonny’s that, barbecue establishments tend to not be on the list of places to go to with Liberal, meat-hating, Global Warmists. Sonny’s will be ticking off their customers in other locations once word gets out about the anti-religion, anti-temperance stand.

It is a bad business move by Sonny’s. I predict in a few years they will be out of business.
