WEST POINT -- President Obama's address here last night was the single finest moment of his presidency.
It was also the worst.
For one of the first times, Americans saw Obama faithfully fulfill his first duty as commander-in-chief.
Having rocketed from obscurity to the presidency on an antiwar platform, Obama made the courageous and politically selfless decision to escalate the unpopular war in Afghanistan because he knows it is in the best long-term interests of his country -- no matter the political consequences.
It was far and away the most difficult decision he has made in the White House
Obama realizes that to surrender the caves of Afghanistan would allow America's most fervent and deadliest enemies to regather, rearm and plot twisted new terror schemes against us that would most surely have catastrophic consequences here at home.
It is hard to overstate how much of a loathsome betrayal Obama's liberal Democratic base finds the decision to send 30,000 more troops to the battlefield.
Many liberals, still in the thrall of puppy love over the new president, are hesitant to publicly condemn Obama. But speaking privately, they can barely contain their horror.
And as much as this decision hurts him on the left, it will do absolutely nothing to win over conservatives who see this as a decision about which he has no other choice.
It was, indeed, a display of political guts.
Yet, as quickly as the courageous words left Obama's mouth, they were slain from behind by words of cowardice.(continued)

I actually heard one diehard liberal today on the subject. He was spitting out Vietnam comparisons left and right. He was furious with Obama.
I didn't know he was such a racist.
I just loved the picture of the WestPoint cadet reading “To kill bin laden” during the speech. If you notice he is prior service with a CIB and a few other decorations.I think he sent a very strong message.
I think his strategy of buildup then retreat is much like our (and the UN’s) reaction to Somalia after Blackhawk Down day. Remember, the commando raid on Aideed’s lieutenants as they met about a mile into Mogadishu from the base.
After we took 18 dead and 30-plus wounded, initially our reaction was to make a big show of force, sending in M-1 tanks on C-5’s, C-130 gunships, APCs, etc. Then only a few months later we pulled out completely, and soon we were ferrying Muhammed Farah Aideed from place to place in an Army C-12, as part of a role in brokering peace between the various remaining tribal factions.
Basically we’re showing the world what paper tigers we are — again. And we all know how that went.
He should have run as an anti-war candidate and saved himself this grief.
Now he's sending more of our brave troops into his politically driven war of half measures.
Take back the House and Senate and impeach the Marxist.
Huh? 0ba-Mao campaigned on escalating the war in Afghanistan.
I'm many of us would love to see it--please post or give us a link.
Hey Rudder,Its on the Drudge.Just click on the pics.I dont have a clue how to post a link. You will love the pics.Trust me.
Isn’t it rather obvious with the current occupant of the White House that he would have been more at home giving last night’s speech in front of the prisoners at Gitmo than the cadets at West Point.
Thanks. I’m off to Drudge (which, btw, hasn’t been keeping abreast lately.)
His “will to Tie” is amazing.
That guy in front of him looks pissed.
He sure does. I'm surprised Obama got any applause. I thought the military could turn their backs on anyone except a CO.
Yes, I know, technically, Obama is their "CIC."

See above. Obama in fact had included sending additional troops to afghanistan in his campaign promises. The rabid left ignored it at that time, and the Dear Leader is acting like he has to do a lot of soul searching, just to appease them.
And according to Der Spiegel, the cadets were told to give the speech an "enthusiastic" response.
I heard a guy on the radio saying that obama was disrespectful just using the cadets as a photo op. I agree.
He was just in and out and only spent less than a couple hours on campus. Did he eat with them? Did he talk to them as individuals for any amount of time?
“How Dare Obama Ask Men to Die for a Half Measure?”
He dares because he’s a “brilliant” leftist and can do whatever he darn well pleases because “brilliant” leftists are now the government and if you object to anything you are a racist, knuckle-dragging, ignorant, bible-thumping, stupid, un-educated moron who doesn’t read the New York Times.
IMHO
