Libertarian-leaning Medina is long shot for GOP nomination but could prompt runoff.
In case of danger, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Debra Medina legally totes a 9 mm pistol (with a 16-round magazine) in a zippered case in her car.
But she doesn't want a license to carry it elsewhere.
The Wharton businesswoman favors repealing the Texas concealed handgun law, saying it shouldn't be government's job to license and regulate guns.
This protégé of libertarian-leaning U.S. Rep. Ron Paul is no sheep.
She told me that decriminalizing marijuana deserves a look. The mother of two home-schooled children, now grown, also sounded skeptical of the state mandate that children attend school.
Medina said she voted for Republican George W. Bush for president but not for the GOP's 2008 presidential choice, U.S. Sen. John McCain (or Democrat Barack Obama).
"That's one of the biggest mistakes Republicans make: Close your eyes, hold your nose and vote for the guy with the 'R' beside his name regardless of what he stands for and what he does," she said.
Making her first race for public office, Medina is chasing well-known, well-funded foes Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Barring upheaval, she won't catch them.
Still, she could keep one from drawing more than half the March 2 primary vote. She'd then get credit for causing their April runoff preceded by loads of high-dollar advertising.

I’m supporting her.
Nice choice of handgun, XD9.
81 Days and Texans vote in the primary
I was pinging you and see you already made it...... Good luck.
I am so there! Our other choices are really bad, IMHO,
Too bad I cannot vote in Texas....Medina would get my vote...
Considering she is up against two open-border, pro-illegal, anti-American Globalist RINOs, I think her chances are better than what some give. Perry and KBH will split the liberal RINO votes.
REMEMBER THIS, TEXANS:
Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress
One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchisons amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.

From his visit to LaRue Tactical.
I wish Perry was more consistent.
I thought he was very consistent..... about being inconsistent that is.
ping more Medina info
Medina is a Latina.
Who can be sure where her loyalties really lie?
I’m not taking the chance.
I’d rather stay with RINO Perry.

Perry is consistent and predictable. He is ALWAYS a Conservative when running for office.
Medina has a following in Texas. She is definitely the candidate of choice for the 912’rs and Tea Party groups. Her campaign needs money in the worst way. The Texas governors race is one place that Palin has fallen off the wagon IMHO, as she is supporting Perry, who by the way has been on the left when it has come to imminent domain issues like the Texas Highway Corridor Project. The more face time with news outlets like FREE REPUBLIC, that can be had for Medina, the better. She is a true conservative AND a TRUE LIBERTARIAN.
Well, thank you, Medina, for Obama. You could have at least voted for Sarah Palin.
You proved you don’t know what you’re doing when you helped sue the Republican Party of Texas because we followed the rules voted in by our Delegates.
Get out of the way. You’re no maverick, no rogue. You are just kickin’ up dust for the sake of kicking up dust. Or your own ego.
Hear/Read this: You Republicans who wouldn’t “hold your nose” in the Presidential election and all of the Senate and House places were not the equivalent of those who voted for Hoffman in NY 23. Most of you were given a decent choice and a (excrement)-y choice. If you couldn’t “hold your nose” for the decent choice, you made the ultra-(excrement)-y choice.
Where you crossed over in the Primary and where you voted 3rd party **** and ESPECIALLY when you did not vote at all **** you might as well have voted for Obama and Biden, Pelosi and Frank.
You ensured we got a tripled deficit. You ensured that even when not one Republican voted for a Bill, it could pass.
Then let Medina run as a Libertarian. Get her off the Republican Ballot.

and many other quotes out there.
- In January 2006, Perry Said The Congressional Proposal To Build A Border Fence Was Silly. Republican Gov. Rick Perry peered through thermal heat-sensing goggles over the vast unguarded fields of the border in Fabens late Wednesday and vowed to continue fighting for increased federal money for border security if re-elected. But Perry said he would not call for militarizing the border, did not support vigilante groups like the Minutemen and said the congressional proposal of a fence along the border was silly. (Brandi Grissom, Perry says he's got more to do for Texas, El Paso Times, 1/12/06)
- In December 2006, Perry Called A Border Fence Preposterous. Gov. Rick Perry won re-election with a focus on border security, but Wednesday he emphasized support for a guest worker program for undocumented immigrants and said a fence along the border with Mexico is a preposterous idea. (R.G. Ratcliffe, Perry backs guest workers, but not border fence, San Antonio Express-News, 12/7/06)
- Rick Perry: Ive Never Been In A Favor Of A Border Wall. REPORTER: Whats your opinion on the border wall? PERRY: Same as its always been, Ive never been in favor of a border wall, theres strategic fencing in some of the urban areas that can be helpful. But you secure the border with boots on the ground, technology and some strategic fencing, but its a compilation of all of those that will secure the border. We know how to secure the border its just a matter of the federal government recognizing that the state might have an answer. (Rick Perry, Remarks To Reporters, Laredo, TX, 10/2/09)
As for me being Republican and voting for the name with the R in front of it I do not do that..I try and check into peoples back grounds..when I saw we knew nothing about Obama then I backed off knowing he has something to hide..You see he is a good actor people just have to see through that wall he has up.. I voted for Bush for governor and BTW I voted for Bush two times and would vote for him again if I could..Not because he has the R in front of his name.. I will stick with Rick Perry as my governor..
Why are the Minutemen “vigilantes” while ACORN is a “community organization”?
