Inconvenient truth for Al Gore as his North Pole sums don't add up ("fresh figures" yrs old)

There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was poleaxed by an inconvenient one yesterday.

The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change “spin” row.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

What I'll do for the FReepers here and with what Lord Monckton says, is that I'll transcribe his talk just before that statement and just after that statement that he made, giving it in context so that everyone can see (in print, anyway...) what he says in his own video that he promotes himself (and he's noted as the one who has produced this video in the credits).

This will clear it up and especially since he's promoting this one himself.

And then anyone will be free to double-check it themselves...

I would think that everyone would like to be absolutely clear on what Lord Monckton does think about this...

I'll tell you the main thing he wanted people to know when he said that. He wanted people to know that he had no complaint against those who say there has been Global Warming, because he said he believed it had been happening too.

He said that his complaint was against "Anthropogenic Global Warming"...

And he was very clear on that... (both of those statements...).

I’ll have the transcript from the video that Lord Monckton sells and post it here, to you... (it’ll be tonight that I get it) — and it will be that section that contains what he said about agreeing that there has been Global Warming and that he has no complaints against those who maintain that.

I think we are all in agreement that manmade gases, which account for about 0.28% of the greenhouse effect has no effect on the climate. (Some would even argue how much the greenhouse effect matters.)

I too used to think that “Yes - it looks like it might be getting warmer for now.” But, also saying - look at the 22 year solar cycle to bring about some cooling. (Even more now that this low cycle has lasted so long.) AND - the previous interglacial warm periods have been about 11,000 to 14,000 years in length. We are at about 11,000 years for our current warm period. So it would not surprise me if we started heading to another ice age.

The Climate Swindle document looks to be from 2007, so perhaps filmed in 2006 even? The recent data does show more of a cooling trend, so perhaps Mockton is taking into account 3 more years of data, and revised his thoughts a bit (as I have).

Or, perhaps he has revised his thoughts based on the recent emails and crooked data that he (an I) have been looking at to make our pronouncements.

Just some thoughts on the various comments that he (and I) have made in the past.

Yeah, I would agree with you on the effect of the mankind on the climate, as you explain it. :-)

And in terms of it getting warmer, as you said, it was before but now it’s not. And I would agree with that, too. That’s why I post the information on the Dalton Minimum and what impact the similar circumstances will have now, as we’ve entered the same kind of solar minimum as the Dalton Minimum, now. That’s just been in the last couple of years.

I’ve made the kinds of distinctions that I have, in these posts, to hopefully get FReepers less concerned and/or worried about those who give the historical data for Global Warming that we’ve had. I’m saying that this is no big deal, as Global Warming and Global Cooling happens all the time, without any input from mankind... :-)

So, I’m just saying don’t get upset about someone saying that there has been Global Warming — because there has been... LOL...

The “big deal” to hammer away on, is “Anthropogenic Global Warming”. I would keep the other side “on this issue” and not on whether there has been Global Warming or Global Cooling... :-)

I have heard his interviews in recent weeks and recall him bringing up that point.
