Why Are We Tiring of Obama? (more classic VDH)

I know Bush had his own list of catastrophes; other Presidents did as well. Again, my point is not trying to adjudicate relative culpability, but rather just to remind us all how and why Obama dived over 20 points in the polls in just 11 months—and his speeches transformed from inspirational to caricatures.

In short, taken together, after nearly a year, these fissures have nearly ruined the once pretty texture of the Obama administration, and almost rendered it incapable of effective governance.

Here is a random selection. I provide no chronology or theme. Nor do I judge the relative importance of any one incident. The point, again, is only that each was a fissure, some small, some major—all were glued over. The result is that now the public understands that its china presidency is fragile and held together by mere glue.

Put the Henry Louie Gates episode right at the top of the list. Barack Hussein Obama's poll numbers took a marked turn for the worse right after that debacle, and they've never recovered since then.

That was when Obama basically stepped out of his disguise and "outed" himself as a race-baiting leftist.

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I’m rereading two great books on Belisarius—the 1828 classic by the then 24-year-old Lord Mahon (with a new intro by Jon Coulston), and a new biography by Ian Hughes. They read like Greek tragedies: Belisaurius is Justinian’s fireman, sent to stop Persians, Goths, Vandals, etc. always with too few troops, a plotting wife, court intrigue at his back, and a never satisfied emperor at home — apparently in some hope that Romanism could hold back the tide in the crumbling 6th century.

But the gawdawful 6th Century was followed by nine mostly glorious centuries for Byzantium.

You can make a decent case that, given what he had to work with and what he nevertheless accomplished, Belisarius was the greatest general of all time.

But the gawdawful 6th Century was followed by nine mostly glorious centuries for Byzantium.

I'd content that Byzantium had little to be happy about after 1180, and particularly after the capture of the city by the Fourth Crusade in 1204. They hung in there for another 2.5 centuries, but it was pretty much downhill after that.

That said, you're quite correct about earlier centuries. For most of the "middle ages" the Eastern Roman Empire was far and away the most powerful and advanced Christian nation, in about any way you care to discuss.

Yet most medieval histories largely ignore it.

Let's add the following:

$20 million to relocate Hamas to America.

Betrayal of Poland by yanking missle defense.

Allowing Russian nuclear weapons inspections to lapse.

And, I'm sure, hundreds of other high crimes and misdemeanors we'll only find out about at his trial.

Obama is Bush's legacy.

Obama is the MSM's/sheeple's legacy with respect to Bush. The MSM did everything they could to destroy any good from Bush, and magnify any error, while holding Obama up as the messiah.

Bush was not perfect. His domestic issues haunted him. His unwillingness to defend himself also caused problems, but he is not responsible for Obama. The media, and a population of sheeple are.

What does GWB have to say about what is going on today?

Nothing.He made himself nothing.

He seems to have missed the Air Force One terrorizing of New York City for a photo op. A moment which demonstrated the pure arrogance and sociopathy of this administration.

He is making historic changes to transform this country into a "progressive" (socialist) state which he believes will be successful simply because the right people are running it. In the end, the only option he wants available to Americans is the government option controlled by his appointed czars.

I had to look up the exact quote to do justice to His geniousness:

“If there’s a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half price for the thing that’s going to make you well?”

Quite a list of accomplishments for the first year!!!!!

Without the mainstream media running cover for Obama he would have dropped 40 points instead of the 20.

But MSM can only can water for the Messiah so long and then they too will turn on him.

Look forward to MSM walking away from ObaMao in 2010.

Agree with you, when Bush didn’t have the backbone to defend himself, I quit defending him also....Thats one thing I disagree with Rush on, he said Bush had too much respect for the Presidency to defend himself....I called BS on that one.....
