Man's 'warning shot' kills woman who was robbing him (IL)

A 31-year-old man said he intended to fire only a “warning shot” when he accidentally killed a woman who’d been part of a group who robbed him Tuesday night on the South Side.

“I’m trying to fire a warning shot — like stay the hell back,” the man said in an interview Wednesday. He did not want his name printed.

Police say the man’s story appears to check out.

The dead woman was identified as Barbara McComb, 21, of the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was pronounced dead early Wednesday at Stroger Hospital.

The man said he was robbed at gunpoint about 11 p.m. while he was walking to a corner store near 47th and South Prairie. He said he was then forced into a sedan with the gunman and four others, all of whom appeared to be in their teens.

First of all it is illegal to own, or posess a gun in Chicago...Wonderful logic to begin with...

So the wrongful death lawsuit by the family of the girl is almost a moot point...

According to the story, it was the perps' gun. He was sitting in the back seat after they kidnapped him, they saw a cop, threw the gun into the back seat. He got the gun instead of the co-perp sitting in the back seat and used it to get away.

Poor perp-victim. She was probably following him, meekly asking that her gun be returned. (Sniff, wiping tear now.)

Oh well, she's dead. So the story has a happy ending. A lot happier if all the perps were dead, but we'll just have to be satisfied with a reduction in the size of the wolfpack.
