An apparent home invasion went wrong today for two suspects when a Hilltop resident apparently shot one of the suspects, police said.
Two men knocked on the door of 177 Haldy Ave. about 2:21 p.m. and asked for money, Columbus Police Sgt. Eric Pilya said.
One of the suspects then took a resident to a back room, where the would-be robber was shot, Pilya said. His wounds were life-threatening, and he was taken to Mt. Carmel West hospital.
The second suspect, who was armed, fled.
I live in Columbus. The Hilltop is a white ghetto.
Sounds to me like a good out come to a home invasion.
Would a home invasion that went right mean they shot and killed and robbed the home owners.
I know that FReepers are among the most knowledgeable in firearms that I know of, outside of the military (and I know that there are a lot of veterans here) but unfortunately most people aren't FReepers. These homeowners could be first-time gun owners or who use their guns exclusively for hunting rather than self-defense, and in the milliseconds where their lives are literally hanging in the balance, they have to make that split-decision. I'll be happy that the perps are injured or scared off. They won't be robbing your house again.

Suburbanite shoots 2 home invasion suspects

Two male suspects were shot Saturday night during an apparent home invasion in Wauconda,ILLINOIS police said.
While few details were being released pending the ongoing investigation, Wauconda police late Saturday said the first call came in at 5:47 p.m. from a residence in the Country Ridge subdivision in the far northwestern suburb.
Two masked males had pushed their way into the home and would not leave after repeated demands and physical altercations with the two homeowners, police said.
One of the homeowners shot both suspects, who were found wounded in front of the home when police arrived on the scene, according to a Wauconda police news release.
The two wounded suspects were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment of gunshot wounds, but police could not provide details on the wounds or conditions for the two. The residents of the home were also taken to the same hospital to be checked out, and were treated and released.
Wauconda police late Saturday were not releasing additional details, saying more information might be available Sunday following an ongoing investigation with members of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
