GOP casting wide net in effort to recruit 2010 hopefuls

The Republican road to redemption may well begin in Frog Jump, Tenn., where a gospel-singing farmer with no political experience is running for Congress.

Without any staff, Stephen Fincher raised $300,000 in September and delighted GOP leaders, who believed they had finally found a credible challenger to Rep. John Tanner (D). Then things took an even better turn for the party: On Dec. 1, Tanner announced he would not run for reelection in 2010. Two weeks later, Fincher, 37, visited Washington for the first time in his life, to get together with GOP leaders eager to meet the newcomer who helped push a 21-year incumbent into retirement.

For a beleaguered Republican Party, Fincher's candidacy is part of a recruiting renaissance following back-to-back elections during which the national political environment was tilted badly against it. In races for the House and Senate, Republicans have found credible candidates that range from intriguing first-timers such as Fincher to ambitious politicians such as California state Assemblyman Van Tran, who took a pass on previous entreaties to challenge Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) but is ready now.

The key, at this stage, is to recruit enough candidates and put them in place to take advantage if the current continues drifting to the right. ...

Republicans [say they] have already recruited 77 top-tier candidates and that they are sure to surpass their goal of 80 for the 2010 elections.

We should get them all together in one room. Huckster’s progeny will eat Slick Willard’s.

I think we’re seeing the payoff from Tea Parties and Town Hall meetings. These incumbent Democrats are scared s#!tless to get in front of their constituents after what they’ve done.

Chicken out and quit, or we’ll beat you at the polls.

I’m from Tn-08 where Stephen Fincher is from. Personally, I think he is our version of Charlie Crist. Everyone should read up on his farm subsidies and the thousands of dollars he’s received from farming “corporate welfare”.

If we don’t watch out here in TN, we’ll be stuck with a RINO for our nominee. There are other candidates in this primary now that I think would be much better than Fincher. I didn’t really look into it much until a couple of days ago when someone on freerepublic posted a press release from the Mid-South Tea Party in concern of Fincher’s contributions from lots of families collecting millions in farm subsidies.

I’ve looked into it the other day and here are some other people in our district looking for the nomination: David Rice, Dr. Ron Kirkland, Dr. George Flinn, and Donn Janes. Look into these guys a little more.

Fincher hasn’t earned the crown yet.

All I can say is that they all had better be clearly different than their opponents or they will suffer from lack of enthusiasm from our base. Our base, which is all too important in midterm elections, is tired of RINOs and other quasi socialists.

The GOP should recruit hero pilot Chesley B ‘Sully’ Sullenberger of Danville, CA to run against the thug Garamendi in CA district 10.
