And earlier, when Jesus at bar mitzvah age got engrossed talking to the rabbis at the temple and his large extended family traveling away in several groups each thought Jesus was with another group. The family’s mistake really wasn’t his fault, but his mom and dad chided him anyhow about it and the scripture says he obeyed them in whatever they asked (which was probably to stick real close to the family in the future). Sometimes honoring your mother and father means humoring them too :-)
Mary, the consummate Jewish mother. She was PROUD of her kid, durn his hide, and he should perform for all to see!
Very good example. Jesus had to be both amused and a little disappointed. As if Jesus needed the protection of his parents, and as if Jesus would be lost from them forever, or kidnapped. He could have willed Himself anywhere he wanted in a blink.
On the one hand, it must have been disappointing for Jesus to be so misunderstood by His own parents. On the other, it must have been funny for a couple of talking monkeys to be seriously in fear for His safety. There seems to be no limits to the patience of God when it comes to we humans.
