Kidnapper testifies victim was 'cooked' in Mexico

Associated Press

McALLEN — A man who pleaded guilty to committing a series of kidnappings on behalf of the Mexican Gulf cartel's enforcers has testified at the trial of a co-defendant that the body of a Texas victim was "cooked" on a ranch in Mexico.

Gerardo Zamora Espinoza testified Wednesday that Daniel Ramirez Jr. was kidnapped from the convenience store where he worked in 2008 because a high-ranking member of the cartel's enforcement arm was trying to expand his power in the area.

Espinoza said he was told by his nephew who allegedly ran the kidnapping ring that they were "cooking the body" of Ramirez at a ranch in Mexico even though Ramirez's father had paid $40,000 in ransom.

OK - oddball reference here.

Some of you may remember the movie The Getaway, (the first one with Steve McQueen & Ali McGraw was much better than the latter version with Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger. Anyway, the novel on which the movie was based was quite different from the movie. The book was somewhat bizzare.

In the end, Carter (Doc) McCoy ends up fleeing to a town in Mexico that’s supposed to be a haven for cons on the run but ends up being a a very strange town full of cannibal’s. Carter (Doc) McCoy ends up in the cook pot.

I for one am glad they went with an alternate ending in the movie
