AZ-Sen. 2010: AZ Sen Poll: McCain Opens Primary Lead (over Hayworth) (thanks a lot, Sarah)
Real Clear Politics / Rasmussen ^ | 2010-01-22

Posted on 01/22/2010 8:02:15 AM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain (R) has known from an early stage that he could face a tough primary in his bid for re-election this year, and acted on it. He already launched radio ads touting his effort to block President Obama's "extreme left wing crusade." And just this week, Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R) recorded robocalls that went out to voters in Arizona.

Now, a Rasmussen poll (502 LVs, 1/20, MoE +/- 4.5%) shows the Maverick just over 50 percent in a potential matchup against former Rep. JD Hayworth -- not the best position for an incumbent to be, but an improvement over the dead heat Rasmussen found in November.

Primary Election Matchup
McCain 53 (+8 vs. last poll, 11/18)
Hayworth 31 (-12)
Simcox 4 (unch)
Und 8 (+1)

I love Sarah, but I’m still voting Hayworth.

Makes me wonder if her support wasn’t some pre-agreed-upon condition to her being accepted/chosen and McStain’s running-mate.

Run RD Run....

Incumbency is akin to the poor hull design on the Titanic.... They think they are immune, but even "John" IMHO is arranging the deck chairs........

That is why he asked Sarah to help... Too late...

That is the one. She is better than Palin in my opinion. A real fighter. There is another one from Tennesee. We need fresh new candidates.

Not thrilled with Sarah’s endorsement, but I hate to see all the haters on here. McCain gave Sarah her opportunity on the big stage. I do not blame her for this. In addition, McCain has supported her in recent months, and it is important that McCain support her to not undercut her reputation. She has to be able to counter the arguments made by Schmidt and other campaign staff, and McCain offers that. If McCain dissed Sarah, it might be tough if not impossible to rebuild her reputation with 2/3s of the electorate.

Me neither. Palin impresses me as a decent and sincere person, but I have had real doubts about her as Presidential material since day one.

The Sarah frenzy here on FR is very reminiscent of the Fred frenzy of 2008, I'd like to think it won't end as badly.

she was trashed and used by McCAIN.

We have a chance of getting rid of him and now she helps him
WTH

being a leader is taking sides and that means telling McCAIN and he homo family that she owes them nothing.

I can’t believe this is happening with her

...but she probably feels an obligation toward McCain.

Probably? She owes him big time and this is simply political payback. If it weren't for him there would be no Sarah PAC and we wouldn't have Sarah. You, marvlus, understand it, but many short sighted FReepers do not. There's also the fact that Sarah believes, as stated on Beck's radio show yesterday, that McCain (among others) might be coming around to a rightward turn in his thinking due to the Tea Party movement.

Hayworth is fading because he hasn’t announced yet. He needs to get off his ass and do it.

McQueeg is on a mission. He’s going to co-op the resistance and dismantle it. This is the single most deranged, dangerous SOB in the Republican Party. Soros’ soldier.

Hayworth is not running yet, so this poll is worthless. I think he ought to run, while acknowledging Sarah Palin as a good force for conservatives. I’m sure Sarah is more in line with Hayworth’s thinking than of McCain, but she probably feels an obligation toward McCain.

Agreed. She can't support a man who hasn't announced a run yet.

It will be interesting to see how she handles this if JD announces a run. Watching her in action will give us a real insight as to what we can expect from her in the future.

We have work to do in Arizona...

We defeated scuzzy in new York and we can defeat McCain in Arizona.

First thing’s first though.. Is hayworth running?

If he is running... Who is handling the campaign for hayworth? Where can we send money? Who do we talk to to volunteer our time?

Anyone in Arizona have answers?

I don't like it either - but I've thought about it from this angle.

McCain asks Sarah to support him. She refuses. Imagine the headlines. So what if J.D. Hayworth declares? Sarah can withdraw for any number of reasons. Not saying I like it.

I’m a fan of hers but her dong this makes no sense what so ever

so what she was chosen as vice pres, she was used then for votes and she was then trashed after and now she is being used again by him.

he’s now got Brown and sarah helping him and the polls are now going his way

We have a good conservative candidate and she runs against him , sorry but that makes no sense what so ever

Who would even know who Sarah Palin is if it weren’t for John McCain? You folks are being sily.

Hayworth should try to get his Congressional seat back. He is getting too big for his britches.

You’re right. And it’s a plus on the character side that she understands that McCain deserves a little payback. A little.

Conservatives should brace themselves for a world of trouble from McCain in 2010.

I love Sarah, but her political instincts seem rather poor. What she sees in this guy is a mystery to me.

Hayworth needs to get in it now or never. Now that Sarah’s endorsing McPain, I suspect this is a power play to dissuade Hayworth from even running. If she gives us Juan McCain for another six, I will never, ever forgive her!

I only have one vote, and my only power is the power of persuasion. Nevertheless, Governor Palin is the friend of my enemy, so now she’s my enemy, too.
