I’m quite aware of those - and most of them are higher maintenance and reduced performance. Austin ended up selling all their CNG buses to Dallas because the performance was so terrible.

I type corrected, it’s propane that’s heavier than air, not natural gas.

On the other hand, natural gas, when combusted, results in higher levels of fun things like formaldehyde.

I don’t want hydrogen as a fuel either. It cost far to much energy to produce and store. It is not a good fuel.

Yes, I would put them in the car is the high school parking lot. But I would not be mounting them in the seats.

Apparently you have a death wish. Tanks under pressure in cars is simply a bad idea even if it’s just CO2 in there.

Let's see:

Tank full of compressed flammable gas. Check

Multiple ignition sources? Check.

Highway speeds? Check.

Invisible flame when hydrogen burns? Check.

Roasted Firemen and Paramedics? Check.

Those who heat their homes will not be thrilled with the price jump if this happens.

Can you point to any explosive incidents involving CNG vehicles?

If you can, what's the rate of failure (and fatalities) for CNG vehicles vs. their liquid gasoline powered cousins?

Just curious.

Can you point to these things being in cars not buses or trucks and not rupturing in a highway speed accident?

The key to keep it safe is to keep maintenance on those vehicles top notch, and have people trained to maintain and service those vehicles.

Interesting claim that Austin quit their CNG program since it appears they continue to expand it.

The City also has six refuse haulers, two Honda Civics, and one passenger van running on CNG, with more CNG vehicles to be added in the future.

Any kind of gas is explosive under the right condition. The Liberals and environmentalist really do not want any kind of alternative energy that will disrupt the mating habits of the bind, deaf asexual mud worms.

German hydrogen cars that have been running around in Munich and the rest of Germany for way more than a decade, having been in several accidents with no such explosions? Check.

Didn’t say they abandoned it - just that they abandoned the CNG city buses due to poor performance.

I like the idea of moving to natural gas. But I drove a natural gas Honda a week ago. It took a half tank to go 100 miles.

What did you pay for that half a tank of fuel?

I take it that's a "No" to the question of whether you can point to any explosive accidents.

From what then have you formed your opinion on this matter?

It’s a simple matter, we know accident happen that rupture gas tanks, but when there’s no spark all you get is a mess. Replace that liquid gas tank with an under pressure air tank and we already know from other incidents what can happen. We don’t need to add more kinetic energy to car accidents.
