IIRC,

past great eruptions have resulted in so much ash in the air that essentially, sunlight struck the surface of the earth enough less that days were shorter, nights longer

Isn’t that true?

that would fit the first part of the Scripture.

If the ash also shielded to some degree from the destructiveness of some types of rays . . . from extreme solar flares or some such . . . that might refer to the last part of that Scripture . . .

‘else no flesh would be saved.’

Vot you tink SunkenCiv?

All that out of the way?...lol

With that said, Steve, I think what you are noticing on the YSB helicorder is a surface response to a geyser or a steam release of some sort. You can note the same captures on the Old Faithful recorder if they ever get it up and running again....lol!

Now as for recordings of true magma flow on the YMR. There were loud bursts of to me what appeared to be harmonics over the last few weeks. When I went back and noticed the times on these type of recording they were remarkably close to the same times on each day. So I have discounted these note on graph at the 17:00 hour as radio transmissions of some sort or vehicular traffic right next to the station.

http://www.quake.utah.edu/helicorder/ymr_webi_5d.htm

However, there have been other responses that make me think indeed we did have harmonics on the YMR. 18:51 period is inclusive of a bona fide harmonic tremor.

http://www.quake.utah.edu/helicorder/ymr_webi_6d.htm

They are not using the YMR as their library recorder, not sure why but the are using one called the Plate Boundary for supposed reduction in noise reasons. However, just like on redoubt, not all recorders were able to pick up the nuances of a Harmonic Tremor and some did not even show a reflection at all.

So that being the case and Layman study of the history is tampered by their choice in webicorders to library.

What is often understood as prophecy appears to be referencing disasters which have already happened. There have been claims of supereruptions of this or that volcano, and the longer ago it is said to have taken place, generally the bigger the eruption is said to have been. It’s perfectly possible there have been world climate changing eruptions that were non-trivial — having pretty sunsets from Krakatoa doesn’t count, and there’s no solid connection with the so-called “year without a summer” — but my view is volcanic eruptions have dire effects locally, but those fall off dramatically with distance. As one-off catastrophic events go, impacts of space debris also have varying effects based on size and energy — but it doesn’t take a very big rock to cause more destruction than literally all the volcanic eruptions ever, combined. There’s always been a volcano or two going off somewhere or other on Earth, going back to its beginning, so the localities involved are all over — but large impacts from space have caused mass extinctions, and no volcano has ever done that.

Interesting.

Thanks.

I thought the year without a summer was tied conclusively to an eruption. Hmmmm.

Thx.

I just finished teaching a unit in Earth Science class (6th graders) on volcanoes. Some of the kids were really freaked out over the caldera in Yellowstone.

If Jellystone blows the ash cloud will circle the planet in less than a week

Make sure to pack a picnic basket for Bo Bo.

Maybe we’ll stay down here in Florida a little while longer ... although I’m a little uncertain about the coverage of a major eruption these days. I recall that the last eruption covered a large part of the southwest but modern conjecture says the east of the caldera is most at risk ... Any experts out there? Change in the jet stream?

Lots of questions from the kids.

Will it erupt again?

If it does erupt how will it effect us in New Jersey.

Will it cause a change in world temperature? Would the pyroclastic flow reach us?

Will it rain acid?

Actually most where pretty good questions.

I showed them the film by PBS on Secrets of the Dead (Herculaneum) Which is available on the internet. They loved it.

don’t know much about scripture, but the plagues etcin Egypt are commonly ascribed to the Thera eruption which happened aroun those times.

“past great eruptions have resulted in so much ash in the air that essentially, sunlight struck the surface of the earth enough less that days were shorter, nights longer

Isn’t that true?”

Yep. Pintabora did that in 1991.

“If the ash also shielded to some degree from the destructiveness of some types of rays . . . from extreme solar flares or some such . . . that might refer to the last part of that Scripture . . .

‘else no flesh would be saved.’”

Don’t know about that, but highly doubtful - unless lots of metalic compounds with copper or iron were in the ash, but then that would only shield from the least harmful EM emmisions.

Gamma, X-Ray and other wave lengths would go through the ash, and throught the Earth

So if I am learning to read these correctly, there are several instances of harmonic tremors on the ymr recorder between 15 and 1900 today (using the timescale on the left)

Why didn’t you just say they look like fine V tach? ;-)

Thanks.

I wasn’t sure at all about the radiation frequencies involved and the typical ash compositions either.

Much appreciate your kind and thoughtful reply.

Have a blessed weekend.

YMR is set to the sensitivity (125 mv) that if a duck farted @ 1000 ft it would pick it up; Using YMC, which is less sensitive (1600 mv) which is quite close to YMR will help in determining the waveform meaning if it shows up on both it may have significance. It is a best practice to refer to multiple siesmos when possible when interpreting the waveforms.

What you are seeing is Lesser Harmonics not to be confused with Volcanic Harmonics.

LH or Lesser Harmonics are just the background ring of the earth and yes that ring can get somewhat loud in terms of siesmos that are ultra sensitive. These are harmless.

VH or Volcanic Harmonics are distinctly different in shape on siesmos. For less sensitive siesmos it will look similar to a rounded EKG and for sensitive siesmos it’ll look more like a square wave if it truncates or like Mount Everest followed by the Challenger Deep over and over if it doesn’t.
These can be important depending on how long they last and if the grow in amplitude.

Another waveform that is often confusing for many looks like a diamond, starts out small builds and then fades. These are Volcanic Like Movements or VLM tend to occur very deep and are not terribly strong and most of the time only picked up on sensitive siemos but on occasion will show up on less sensitive ones. These are not dangerous.

A similar wave form to VLM are surface events they to tend to be diamond shaped but are much more ragged. In most cases these are felt but tend to be relatively harmless unless of moderately strong magnitude 4.5+.

Lastly the most common type, Tectonics, these typically don’t have a build up or when they do it tends to be short, and they can be proceeded by a building LH. After no or little built there is a sharp movement that will vary in duration on the strength of the quake. following the sharp movement the initial waveform will fade out over a period of seconds to generally a few minutes.
