I doubt that. If the People are strong enough Republican to elect a Republican Senator their State legislature/assembly will appoint a Republican - or blow their chance at reelection.
Originally the US Senate represented the States and the House of Representatives represented We, the People. Now our State has no representation. Why do we have an Upper and Lower House at the Federal level when both are composed of elected politicians? With both being directly elected why not eliminate the Senate and combine both functions in the House?

I understand, again, your dreams of having a better Senate with the repeal of the 17th, but it's not gonna happen. You're going to have party hacks filling those seats, even more unaccountable than ever before. You think legislators will be bounced ? Are you familiar with the concept of gerrymandering ? That is a near-surefire way of insulation from the voters. You doubt Massachusetts, which has a 90% Democrat legislature, populated by useless hacks, union thugs and outright criminals, would've not elected Scott Brown ? I'm sorry, but that's simply insane. You guys need to do more research on individual legislatures and see EXACTLY what you'll be getting if you returned that power to them. If you think the Senate is bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet.
