Non-U.S. Citizens Voting in Portland - Public Hearing Thursday

It is considered one of the most fulfilling duties of a U-S citizen ... the right to vote. In Portland that right could be passed on to those who are not U-S citizens.

Portland's Charter Commission will hold a public hearing Thursday on whether to extend voting rights to legal, non-citizens in municipal elections.

The Charter Commission is expected to vote on the proposal February 24th.

The League of Young Voters is behind this proposal:

They oppose ID requirements for voting and are connected to ACORN.

If this occurs then the next step will be to allow foreigners to run for election.

Already happened in 2008 - check the resident in the White House.

Agreed. Just pointing out the hole in the “theory” that says anyone who pays taxes gets a say. I pay a ton of property taxes for property in another state which I don’t legally reside. I have absolutely NO say in how those property taxes are spent. Like it or not, that’s the way it is.

The Biddeford Pool section of Biddeford Maine is a vacation spot where the houses are owned mostly by out of staters. The Property Taxes were raised on these properties in a special election. These property tax payers cannot vote.

It's real simple: You form a CITIZENS coalition whose mission statement reads that any law enacted by voters who are NOT US citizens, are null and void. Further, any elected official put in office by the vote of non-citizens is ineligible for that office and any actions or dictate rendered by said ineligible office-holder are also null.

In other words, force the issue and bring the glaring light onto the subject.

You should find candidates in that state or area where you have your property, who are Tea Party supporters and Conservative, and contribute to them, so you can help them to win, or get on the phone for them through virtual campaign phone banks being set up nationally in order for anyone to volunteer and “work” a campaign even from thousands of miles away. You will have a voice that way. I had a voice in New York’s 23rd by wiring both cash and ideas (some of which they used) to Doug Hoffman’s district...and I never even set foot in the place and don’t own so much as even a fishing lake launch there.

I'll take a wild guess and say that the people promoting this idea aren't from Maine.

Likely moved up from Boston, CT, NY, or NJ a few years ago "to get away from the rat race".
