Blizzard of Lies: Debunking The Warm-Air-Holds-More-Moisture Defense
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/12/2010 4:33:36 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

By now, we're all familiar with the global warmists attempt to explain away the record-breaking mid-Atlantic blizzards. Take this, for example, from the New York Times [emphasis added]:

[snip]

So more snow fell from Philly to DC because the temperatures were warmer than normal during the blizzards? That got me wondering: just what were the temperatures in DC on the snow days, and how do they compare to the norm? And guess what?

Will the MSM note this little analyis?

That's "analysis".

And of course they won't.

Anybody working with wind power knows that cold air is more dense than warm air: there's way more power in a 10 MPH 30-degree wind than a 10 MPH 70-degree wind.

It’s not Global Warming anymore. It’s Global Climate Change...

In unrelated news... From now on, tanking poll numbers will be known as Approval Poll Change...

Global warming followers do so with religious fervor and less fact checking.

You can’t convince them.
It is a matter of faith.
You’re wasting your breath.

A bid to win back the hearts and minds of the public on the issue of climate change has been launched today with news that the Norfolk university at the centre of the “climategate” scandal has asked for an independent review of the research in question.

The University of East Anglia has announced experts identified by the prestigious Royal Society will look again at key publications by the Climatic Research Unit (CRU), including the work of Prof Phil Jones, whose stolen emails were among those to spark the current controversy.

Like I said before, it still has to be cold enough to snow. And what about the big snow of 1889-90 the snow level was 54.4". This snow fall was 54.9". Was it global warming in the 1889 snow fall too?

It's actually funny. One theory is debunked so now in a panic they are trying to make up another theory. What they are doing is looking more and more desperate and more and more foolish. Like chicken little, the sky is falling, the sky is falling.

The climate change or global warming folks are really desperate for an explanation.

Philly was colder than average on the snow days

It is not a very convincing analysis, sort of post hoc, ergo propter hoc. Given that it snowed, it was probably cold, especially colder than average in DC where winter is usually mild.

There was a piece by a guy who had been the Virginia state meteorologist for decades who made the point that winter storms in coastal Virginia and DC always have lots of water, but it usually falls as rain. The only thing preventing lots of snow was the fact that it was, you know, too warm.

Uhhh...having both cold and warm air masses to compare...In the Summer the humidity can get so high you can see it in the air...like the Smoky Mountains.

In the Fall and Winter I’ve seen a miserable rain at 33 degrees.

When the moisture bearing air hits freezing and lower temps, a funny thing happens...the water freezes and falls to the ground.

You ever see it 20 below and foggy?

See “dew point” and “relative humidity”.

Sometimes simple analyses are the most incisive. How could the blizzards be explained away on the warm-air-holds-more-moisture theory if in fact the air was colder than normal?

LOL... if warm air holds more moisture, then where was all this warm air during the past week?

Just as “Military-Industrial Complex” became a phrase of condemnation, we need to develop the key words that will succinctly slam this coalition of ‘scientists’ and the people who are ready to capitalize on the control of ‘carbon credits.’ They both have so much invested, they are not going to give up the promotion of the need to control the lives and purses of ‘common man.’

Soundbites and catch-phrases are how the Left communicate and preach. We must do the same to reach their converts and followers.
