Heh.

We have a choir loft in our church. Big thing, as choir lofts go, reaches “lofty” heights, forgive the pun.

But the big organ sits on the altar and the choir sings in the first few pew rows.

I am on the Finance Council of the church and we have our big annual meeting this past Sat. Priest says while we are renovating the ceiling (falling tiles, that sort of thing), and with the scaffold up already, we should move the organ back up to the choir loft. It’ll be expensive, he says, but then’s the time.

So I ask, as I wont to do...why was it moved to begin with? By me I think choir loft are great things and an organ up there would sound mighty, as I considered. But hey, I never heard it or anything.

“The Vatican made us move it,” the priest says.

So, of course, I say well how comes we can move it back up there now?

“Vatican changed the rules,” priest says, something about square and rectangle churches.

Yeah, I used to not eat meat on Friday. I loved it as a kid. always had fishsticks and macaroni and cheese, my favorite meal.

So I never cheated and ate meat but I do pity those that did who will now spend time in Purgatory for rules that, ahem, have once again been changed.

Sounds like a Hammond B3 or the C Series. Piece of cake to move those with 4 people.
If too big, don't hire an outside company. Rent something like a JLG lift for a half day. They also have high lift fork lifts. Don't forget to rent heavy duty straps.

Recruit some people, tell them this will guarantee their entry into heaven, save money and have fun.

I have moved hundreds of large organs.
BTW, your priest sounds pretty cool.

The priest has been misinformed. There has never been any instruction from the Vatican which mandated the elimination of the use of choir lofts for the organ and the choir. That was mistakenly inferred by zealous "reformers".

As for the rule of not eating meat on Fridays, the sin was not in the actual consumption of meat, but in the deliberate defiance of the Church.

If I am cited for blowing through a stop sign the day before they remove the stop sign, I am still obliged to pay the fine.
