Ordination of Meg Whitman?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/21/10 | Debra J. Saunders

Posted on 02/21/2010 8:21:00 AM PST by SmithL

This month, former Gov. Pete Wilson sent out a letter calling on good Republicans to "unite" behind former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's bid for governor. A largely Democratic effort had been formed to raise $40 million to defeat the billionaire candidate, which Wilson argued forced Team Whitman to launch its general election campaign early.

It was an arrogant move - calling the GOP primary before a single voter has cast a ballot in the June 8 election. Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner is still in the race. No wonder Poizner recently told me, "She wants to be ordained."

After pouring $39 million of her own money into her campaign, Whitman has blanketed the airwaves with commercials and, as a result, has been trouncing Poizner in the polls. Poizner, who is also rich and put about $19 million into his effort, has preferred to campaign using free media, including debates with former rival Tom Campbell. (Which Whitman skipped.) Poizner wants to debate at the GOP convention in March. Whitman says no.

I reached Wilson on his cell phone Wednesday to ask: How can a candidate who never has run for office, and ducked every debate to date, dare to try to elbow out of the primary the one candidate who has won statewide office?

Wilson answered that even though Whitman is skipping a debate at the March GOP convention, she has agreed to a later debate. I should understand, he said, that Whitman is doing what all savvy candidates, including the likely Democratic nominee, Attorney General Jerry Brown, do - limiting debates and press interviews. "You don't accept every one," Wilson explained, using his why-do-I-even-have-to-say-this voice. "I think this is small potatoes, Debra."

So far you seem too far left for me to support for political office, and being unwilling to reveal one of your retread names makes it hard to learn just how far left you are on the spectrum.

Your seeing the pro abortion Scott Brown as a good choice for head of the Republican Party sure tells me something though.

I am full aware of Steve Poizner and I do not back him either. Let's not use the problems of Poizner to deflect away from the problems of Whitman.

As far as I'm concerned, Whitman and Poizner need to go away, as do Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gerry Parksy and Duff Sundheim anybody else who has been a thorn in the side of conservatism, our liberties, our pocketbooks.

No more empty-suited big government types thankyouverymuch.

I think Poizner did himself in, when he turned all-girly-man over Whitman’s campaign. They’re both RINOs, and I don’t see a lot of difference between them. Nevertheless, come November, I’ll hold my nose and vote against Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown.

Instead of having an election, why not just put the governorship of California on eBay?

Gee you forgot to mention that Whitman donate over
$286,000 to republican candidates.

Does that $10,000 donation to Al Gore recount that Poizner HIDE and then Blamed on his wife ( talk about pathetic hiding behind your wife )bother you??

Or that fact, Poizner is so desperate he called in his Buddy Jerry Brown to investigate his GOP rival for being MEAN To HIM. Boo Hoo . That's a manly man.
Blaming and crying about primary rivals not being fair.

Gee Lets see Poizner not only donated to help out his comrade Al Gore defeat the Republican Presidential candidate but here are some more Democrat party donations by the supposed GOP old timer.

“Unlike Whitman, a political newcomer, Poizner’s record has been vetted in the course of a previous campaign. In his 2006 run for his current seat, Republicans became acquainted with Poizner’s contributions to Democrats, which included $10,000 to the Democratic National Committee in 2000, $1,000 to Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000 and $2,000 to Kerry in 2001.”

Poizner is quite a strong GOP candidate !
Almost Reagan like?

Does it hurt that your Steve is a fraud ?

The demographics of California have changed so significantly in the last 30 years, that Ronald Reagan couldn't get elected in California, following his own example. That's just the practical political reality.

You're in Ohio?

In Ohio, they voted for Bush in 2004, and then voted for a Communist in 2008.

BTW, over a million more Californians voted for Bush in 2004 than did Texans.

Looking at Ohio and other states from 2008, Reagan couldn't get elected as President.

"You're in Ohio? "

Actually, I'm only in Ohio part-time. During the 2008 election, I was on active duty in VA, FWIW. I've lived in California twice in my life, for a number of years. So, I'm not completely unfamiliar with California's demographics.

"BTW, over a million more Californians voted for Bush in 2004 than did Texans. "

True, of course in 2004 3,912,781 more people voted for Kerry in California than voted for Kerry in Texas. And, in 2008, it was roughly 600K more for McCain, but 4,745,840 more people voted for Obama in California than voted for Obama in Texas.

My point about the demographics, which you should have picked up on if you had continued reading, is that the racial demographics have changed in California perhaps more than in any other state in the Union, even more than TX.

is that the racial demographics have changed in California

You seem to be avoiding that fact that it's like everywhere else....Including Ohio.

That's why, if you live another decade or two, you'll have a Hispanic instead of a black for your president.
