Ordination of Meg Whitman?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/21/10 | Debra J. Saunders

Posted on 02/21/2010 8:21:00 AM PST by SmithL

This month, former Gov. Pete Wilson sent out a letter calling on good Republicans to "unite" behind former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's bid for governor. A largely Democratic effort had been formed to raise $40 million to defeat the billionaire candidate, which Wilson argued forced Team Whitman to launch its general election campaign early.

It was an arrogant move - calling the GOP primary before a single voter has cast a ballot in the June 8 election. Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner is still in the race. No wonder Poizner recently told me, "She wants to be ordained."

After pouring $39 million of her own money into her campaign, Whitman has blanketed the airwaves with commercials and, as a result, has been trouncing Poizner in the polls. Poizner, who is also rich and put about $19 million into his effort, has preferred to campaign using free media, including debates with former rival Tom Campbell. (Which Whitman skipped.) Poizner wants to debate at the GOP convention in March. Whitman says no.

I reached Wilson on his cell phone Wednesday to ask: How can a candidate who never has run for office, and ducked every debate to date, dare to try to elbow out of the primary the one candidate who has won statewide office?

Wilson answered that even though Whitman is skipping a debate at the March GOP convention, she has agreed to a later debate. I should understand, he said, that Whitman is doing what all savvy candidates, including the likely Democratic nominee, Attorney General Jerry Brown, do - limiting debates and press interviews. "You don't accept every one," Wilson explained, using his why-do-I-even-have-to-say-this voice. "I think this is small potatoes, Debra."

Again, Poizner is pathetic.
If Poizner want to win based on IDEAS versus just smearing Whitman and turning her into the radical leftist AG then he better spend some money now.
Poizner has not spent a dime of his billions except on donations to Al Gore 2000 recount.Oh that right , he blames his wife.

Brown is a far left radical who would destroy what is left in the state .

These posts are going in circles.
I live in the reality of this state and deal with these Dem nutjobs in Sactown.

Sadly , a real Conservative can not win here unless they have more money than the Unions and the Environmental wacko groups.

You are absolutely right imo. Is Meg Whitman an ideal candidate for conservatives? No, but in CA you have to realistic about who can actually win against Jerry Brown. I'll take Whitman anytime over Gov. Moonbeam.

Gee, I guess the 40 million that the SEIU, ACCORN, Sierra Club and MOvon.org are spending to smear Meg Whitman is
secret strategy to help her ?
Do you have the millions to take on ACCORN/SEIU Brown ?

Meg Whitman and Mitt Romney deserve all the smearing that we can deliver.

Meg Whitman is one of those rare cases of a person that we need to stop from ever entering elective office, especially as Governor of California.

Once in, as a rich, powerful, liberal Republican woman and Governor of California, she will haunt and derail conservatives for decades to come.

You seem to be helping Mitt Romney build a power base, and want to make the left wing, Meg Whitman the most powerful woman in the GOP.

Meg Whitman, as Governor of California would become the face of the “reasonable” Republican woman, and would be in line for the veep position on a Romney ticket and next in line for the Presidency after that, and she would never go away, look to her to be the representative female voice of the GOP, for decades.

Here is the real Steve Poizner

http://www.stoptheaclu.com/2009/06/11/why-did-calif-republican-poizner-donate-to-gorelieberman-recount-fund/

Steve Poizner called in the radical nutjob Jerry ACCORN Brown to investigate some phony charge about Whitman.

Please note that Steve has not spent a dime promoting his
ideas but he will contact his buddy Jerry Brown to do his dirty work.

Why even bother having primaries?

Too bad the Ca GoP can;t answer that question. Their performance is dismal in working to harness the TEaParty energy.. they fail to read the tea leaves.. again.
