Newly-seated Republican Sen. Scott Brown (Mass.) on Monday joined Democrats in voting to end debate on their $15 billion jobs bill.

Brown crossed the aisle after Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) nixed an $85 billion, bipartisan plan in favor of a more narrowly-focused bill.

JD has the grassroots support...and he wins every straw poll and I think he has a great chance. McCain is LOATHED by the base here..just loathed. And the silver lining about this Scott Brown Debacle today is that now he does nothing for McCain. He brings no conservatives his way.

So I wonder why the other 35 or 36 Republicans voted against it?

I think the main reason is that they wanted the chance to offer amendments, and if this voted passed, no amendments would be allowed. I think you will see many more than 5 Republicans vote for it on final passage.

“Exactly. And if I understand correctly they already had more Republicans crossing to vote for it than the Democrats needed. In which case, this is an especially harmless vote that can build a little of the ‘independent’ cred everyone knows he needs if he’s going to retain the seat in a couple of years. Going all ideologue on us and handing his seat to your usual closet-commie MA Democrat won’t help us or the country at all.”

Exactly. This vote give Brown political cover and makes a splash in the media so that that the “independent” label has some meaning back home.In actuality hes taking one in the neck for the republicans going forward. Its a much smaller bill and does have some benefit for small buis.

Don’t worry Scott Brown is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

I’m fine with Brown because he’s better than we could ever expect in any other year. But I had no illusions. What’s hilarious is we had people writing Sarah Palin off as the queen of the RINOs because of a couple of campaign stops with McCain, then turning around and expecting Brown to be Reagan with ball-handling skills.

“What is somewhat surprising is the number of FReepers who were ready to have this guy run for President of the United States the day after he won Mass. “

Were they really serious? It’s sort of like saying Glen Beck should be president just because he gave a nice speech during CPAC.

“Can we now stop the “SCOTT BROWN” for President threads?”

Even if he wasn’t a rino...we’re going to support a senator for 2012 who just cast his first vote today? I have to admit his JFK ads were good but a president needs to do more than campaign well.

I think JD will make a point to vote strictly to the Right, if only to show AZ and McCain that he is NOT McCain. I could be wrong, but that’s my thinking at this point.

We all hope that JD will earn our support once (and if) he's sworn in, but he's been inside the Beltway before, and may easily succumb to RINO-itis once he gets back.

As a matter of fact, I read some posts here in the last couple of days that indicated that JD wasn't a reliable conservative when he last served. Sorry that I don't recall the details at the moment. I'm sure you'll see references to his record in the coming days.

I'm learning to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. We've got a long way to go before we fully expel all of the RINOs from Washington.

I keep saying that we need a party that is named "The Conservative Party." So long as it is a generic party that keeps trying to pull independents in we are going to end up with jerks like Brown. Though I suspected it from the beginning I was totally convinced that brown was a moderate/liberal the other day when I heard that Sarah Palin also endorsed McCain. I know McCain and he is just as bad as Obama with one exception. McCain really is a US Citizen. Palin was, for me, a shining star until she started supporting and endorsing the likes of Brown and McCain. Now I am seriously disappointed in her and those candidates she's endorsing.

Now a day it seems there is very little to be hopeful for.

but the independents don’t want him to spend tons of money this country doesn’t have.

It's going to be an uphill climb, but clearly McCain is feeling the heat. machogirl heard him on local TV today and said McCain could barely contain his anger about this race... so JD is really getting under his skin because he went right for the juglar and McCain's vote for TARP -- and not even so much TARP, but that fact there was an additional $150 Billion in PORK attached to this bill.. and now McCain is trying to claim he was duped, but all that does is show him as dumb and dumber...

It is going to get bloody, but I noticed JD spoke eloquently about the facts Saturday evening...

That said, our local mayor was peeved he didn't address "local" issues aka the sewer issue (which IS a big deal locally, but would put JD in a corner when he is talking fiscal conservatism if he said "oh, yeah, I'll find you money in DC for your sewer project." so I understand why JD isn't going there. The Feds stuck us with this financial mess which is why it's such an issue)...

Anyway, JD is planning to do town halls around the state, I look forward to this taking place. He said he will bring two chairs since you don't know which Mccain will show up: the one who pretends to be conservative to get re-elected or the one who pushes AGW, McCain-Feingold,. Amnesty, once he is re-elected.

I will say up here in Mohave County McCain is very unpopular and I don't know a soul who will vote for him, one couple told me Saturday evening at the dinner that they have cast their last vote for McCain... and our local state senator is a supporter of JD...

JD said don't get upset about all the DC insiders endorsing McCain, that it is how things work and it to be expected, that he has Arpaio's endorsement and the room errupted in applause... Sheriff Joe may be hated in DC, but zonies like him.

IMHO this move by Scott Brown today plays into JD’s hands since McCain couldn’t wait to have Brown robo-call all over AZ the day after he won in MA... with JD really playing hard on the fact McCain isn’t the fiscal conservative he claims to be, I’m certain this will help... basically it was sort of a running joke with locals about getting their Scott Brown calls.

Hope it helped, I see the usual suspects are now angry at JD because of his statement about Obama... however JD is running a tightly-focused campaign and concentrating on Immigration, Spending and Cap n Trade, he is mindful that he is running against John McCain, not Obama... I wish others here would keep that in mind.

“Scott Brown will hopefully vote with us at least 65% of the time...
Well......to my knowledge, so far he’s voted with the Dems 100% of the time. “

Wrong his first vote was to vote against an Obama appointee for labor or something. He voted in opposition.

After Friday this vote will be a footnote compared to the votes on the horizon.

Let me tell some of you Alice in wonderland purist out there. There is no Santa claus no easter bunny and no pure conservative canidate that will ever win a national election or even in office now with any serious national clout. One brick at a time people one brick at a time.To go from Ted Kennedy to Scott Brown is an enourmous leap.

And you have nobody to thank for Barack Obama but corupt drunk with power Republican majoritys that pileged and stole and spent everything that wasn’t nailed down to begin with.
