CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming House has advanced a bill that would allow residents to carry concealed guns without a permit provided that they can demonstrate they're familiar with firearms.
The House voted 42-15 on Monday to send House Bill 113 to the Senate.
The House amended the bill to specify that citizens would have to demonstrate their familiarity with guns by passing a certified firearms safety course or have a background of military or police service...
Got one word for this, YEA!!!!
I see that the representatives from the Sheridan area voted against this bill.
More evidence that Sheridan is becoming the next Jackson.
As for Landon’s worry that police won’t have a way to verify residency:
There’s this little item called a “driver’s license” that police can ask for when they stop a person.
Go Cowboys!!!!!!!!!
Oh great. Now Wyoming is going to become the “Wild West”.
Oh..wait...it is the wild west.
Nevermind.
I think this is great, but does that mean that they have to carry proof that they took a class or a test or what? Or demonstrate their skill right then and there? Maybe I’m not understanding the article....
Compared to such “civilized” locations as Los Angeles, Compton, the Oranges and Newark in NJ, etc... Wyoming is as exciting as watching paint dry. It might be “the West” but as for how “wild” it is ... imagine the Mormons and the Methodists holding a softball league.
That’s about the level of “wild” in Wyoming.
any room left for new residents in Wyoming?
I’m all for the second amendment right to carry firearms, and have a permit in Texas - but it galls me that we have to pass laws to allow citizens to exercise their second amendment right. As an aside, I had 6 years of military service and NEVER touched a firearm so I’m not sure their allowing persons with military experience makes a lot of sense!
Wow, Sheridan is a beautiful place. I spent a week in Wyoming last summer.
Anyone?
I hear you. And don't forget my old neighborhood in Detroit. One of these days I'm going to have a custom holster made for my customized Ruger SA Super Blackhawk. That's the firearm I'd carry out there.BTW, did you catch the article in the San Francisco paper today, about the panty-wringers who are freaking out about firearms being allowed in the National Parks? It's a hoot.
...Mormans and the Methodists holding a softball league.
Lol.
Right now, I can’t decide whether to move from here, in Michigan, to Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, or Texas.
Nope. We're chock full.
I mean, 500,000 residents has made it a tight squeeze here.
Thanks for your interest though. :-)
Illinois?
Yes, right then and there. Cop pulls out a target and the shoot off begins! Gotta shoot better than the cop and you go free! lol
Wyoming has now a concealed carry privilege law. If the Wyoming Senate changes its mind, they failed to in 2006, and the governor doesn't veto it, they will have a concealed carry right, i.e. unrestricted, like Vermont and Alaska. Alaska also issues permits for their citizens to have reciprocity in other concealed carry privilege states. Wisconsin and Illinois are the only states that forbid concealed carry privileges. The vast majority of states are now shall issue privilege states.

Yeah, it’s getting too dad-gummed crowded with an average of about 5 people for each one of your 97,000 square miles!
:-)
Darned straight.
Some folks don't like it if they can see a neighbor's house from their own yard. :)
With the population we have, it doesn't take much of an influx to cause significant political shifts.
Two things work in our favor out here:
1) The weather - A few Wyoming winters will usually separate the men from the boys.
2) I-80 goes through the most desolate and boring parts of the state, so the rest of what we have remains a pretty well-kept secret.
I’m going to have to drive across that stretch this week. Believe me, I know what you’re talking about! :-)
