Rigging an election is nice work if you can pull it off. That's what the Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives appears to be trying to do as it votes next week on the misleadingly named Puerto Rico Democracy Act...

Are such tactics a reason for the disregard of voters’ opinions on so-called “health care” (power grab) bill?
It is quite ingenious in how this Totalitarian Bill circumvents the repeated preference in regular referendums of the Puerto Rican people for Commonwealth Status.
As an added bonus, the government gets to confiscate more money when hundreds of thousands of PR residents become eligible to pay federal income taxes.
Democrats see this as a win-win.
Just a ping for looks.
Please, Luis Guttierez and the Socialists know what is best for the people. The Puerto Rican Communists are martyrs, not terrorists.
If the democrats force PR into statehood, the PR’s will become Republicans. They love the perks of the US (50 billion a year) while keeping their culture intact.
2 more Dem senators. That is what this is all about. For Dems, the ends always justify the means. Always.
“Please, Luis Guttierez and the Socialists know what is best for the people. The Puerto Rican Communists are martyrs, not terrorists.”
It is all about power for powers sake. Two socialist Senators to stack the deck.
I figure they have a 3-part plan. This is step one, then there’s the renamed ACORN, then the illegals.

I thought Puerto Ricans didn’t want state hood. I guess the dimwits don’t care about that.
“I thought Puerto Ricans didnt want state hood.”
They don’t. The bill is cleverly designed to prevent the Puerto Ricans from voting for Commonwealth status.
Well, to be fair to the Puerto Ricans, they never asked to be part of the United States. They were just at the wrong geographic place at the wrong historical time when a war broke out over their neighbor, Cuba, and then they became a U.S. possesion whether they liked it or not.
Statehood would be cultural suicide for the Puerto Ricans as Mainlanders would start flooding in. The current status is what is best for everybody.
It’s not two guaranteed Dem Senators. The current Resident Commissioner (Territorial Delegate) from Puerto Rico in the House of Representatives is a Republican.
That said, this bill is a crock. While I favor Puerto Rican statehood, the People of Puerto Rico must decide on it, and by more than 50% +1.
Every other state since the Constitution was adopted has made a clear choice for statehood. For Puerto Rico to be a state, it’s people must also make a clear choice. And since the island is split 48-48 between status quo and statehood, that is not going to happen anytime soon.
Puerto Rico........a beautiful place, but, we DON’T NEED ANOTHER FREAKIN’ WELFARE STATE.
The majority do not want statehood, but the dimwits do not care.
Agreed, but you know that’s what the dems are up to.
Democrats desperately clinging to their dwindling majority
59-41 is hardly a dwindling majority. We have no idea how November will turn out.
Their per capita GDP is about 37% ours. Believe me, their tax dollars won't be filling our Treasury.
