The no clue ACLU is at it again. This time they're weighing in on the possibility of a White House decision to revert back to military tribunals for 9/11 suspects in hope of gaining Congressional approval for the closing of Guantanamo. The executive director of the ACLU, Anthony D. Romero has said, "If this stunning reversal comes to pass, President Obama will deal a death blow to his own Justice Department, not to mention American values. The military commissions system is incapable of handling complicated terrorism cases."
Death blow to the Justice Department? That might not be such a bad idea but a death blow to American values and a military incapable of handling complicated terror cases is simply ludicrous. Those are the words from a ticked off radical leftist group claiming to represent mainstream America. The only values the ACLU wants to protect are their own. These trials would put them in the spotlight, on the big stage, challenging everything prosecutors had and the the way it was obtained in order to win freedom for the accused. They have been waiting years for this moment and now it may slip away.
Their only recourse is to attack the mentality of our military and the military system of justice. Why? Because they know all their whiny little motions and objections that are accepted in civilian court won't be tolerated or given the same weight in the military tribunal. The trial will be run in an orderly fashion. That's not to say that the trials will be short and quick but it won't be the circus and drama that the ACLU is searching for in civilian court of law. The outrage expressed by them is typical of the organization. If the majority of Americans are for it, the ACLU is against it.
If there is anything complicated about trying terrorists, it is only because the Obama Administration has made it so. It's obvious they realize that now, though they would never admit it, and are looking once again for compromise. Terrorists should and must be treated as enemy combatants in the War On Terrorism. That said, they should be held in Guantanamo no matter when and where they are captured, "water-boarded" sufficiently, then moved into the military court system to be tried and fried. That's not complicated. What is complicated is being an organization claiming to represent the view of America and having no clue as to what that view is.
Not as shocking as other lefty looniness, but noteworthy as “loony left lite”. Will add ...
Close Encounters with the Loony Left [link-list]
Definitely ping worthy. Thank you FRiend. Did we ever actually defund ACLU tax money?
Anthony D. Romero
Romero was born in New York City on July 9, 1965 to Puerto Rican parents Demetrio and Coralie Romero.
He is the first openly gay man and the first Hispanic director of the civil liberties institution. In his time as the executive director he has nearly doubled the organization's budget and increased its staff by a similar amount.
That is pretty surprising.
Under the Obamaloon administration?
Oxymoron alert, oxymoron alert.
Oh, the military system is more than capable. It is the left-o-weenies who make it impossible, from kindergarten ROE's to micromanagement of the justice process. * spit *
"If the majority of Americans are for it, the ACLU is against it."
I have never understood why KSM and others should get a civilian trial.
They are not American citizens and are at war with America. Non-citizens do not have the same rights as the rest of us do.
Also, Obama himself has praised the Nuremburg Trials as a means of administering justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity. But, DOES THE PRESIDENT KNOW HIS HISTORY? THE NUREMBURG TRIALS WERE A SERIES OF MILITARY TRIBUNALS!!!
