Maher: Obama Should Have Used Anger, Fear to Promote Health Care Agenda
Newsbusters ^ | March 11, 2010 | Jeff Poor

One of the left's knocks on conservatives has been claiming they're demagogues that play on emotion to push a certain point of view. It's been said about Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and the Tea Party movement.

However, HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" host Bill Maher doesn't seem to take issue with using trumped up emotions to push an agenda. The difference - he is approaching things from the opposite end of the ideological spectrum. Maher appeared on MSNBC's March 10 "Countdown" and defended his demand from his own March 5 program that President Barack Obama quit smoking. The reason - so he would get angry and use that emotion to promote his agenda.

"No, what I was - you know, the point of the rule was that when people quit smoking, they get angry," Maher explained. "And I like my president angry, because, you know, considering how much in this country people are poisoned, ripped off and lied to, we should all be angry, but especially that guy, who has to deal with Congress every day in trying to get this health care bill through and all that. And you know, I like him when he's out on the stump in a sort of a partisan mode. I think his biggest mistake, that he has made, in his first year, was to out put bipartisanship ahead of fixing the country. He spent all his political capital on getting three damned votes for that stimulus bill instead of coming in with all the energy from the election and saying, ‘You know what, we're in a crisis mode, I won this election by a sizable mandate, here's what we're going to do. If you don't like it, Republicans, you can suck on it.'"

Obama has been using fear and anger. The majority of Americans just aren’t buying it.

Maher of course being one who poisons minds and lies continuously. I might even add that the fact that the man - and I use that term loosely - makes a living as an entertainer is prima facie evidence that he's ripping off somebody.

This hateful garden gnome is why I cancelled HBO.

I just luv it when these liberals take their masks off. Whatever happened to 60s style peace and love? Oh wait, it was never about that—try power and control.

What Maher doesn’t seem to get is that Zero has his hands full trying to figure out how to keep the gummint checks going out to prevent absolute “Night of the Living Dead/Sean of the Dead” zombie killing chaos here and he has idiots like Bill Maher nipping at this heels egging him on to try to stop Civil War 2. Sometims I almost feel sorry for Zero. No, not really.

Uh...thats almost a verbatim quote of what he DID say...

Why does anyone listen to this clown...or that clown, Zero?

I am scared to DEATH of their plan and what it will do to my family, our retirement and our freedom. If that isn’t palpable fear, what is?

He got 52% of the vote, most of which was made up of independent voters that have long since abandoned him.

Bill Maher is quite an angry man himself.

He feeds off the angry members of the left while projecting his deep self hatred at others who he perceives as enemies simply for disagreeing with him.

Underneath Maher caustic smile lies a disturbed individual who believes HE should be an elected official or a Hollywood Oscar winner rather than the host of a two bit HBO show with an audience that’s just as bitter as he is.

Retard Maher, Hussein may be your messiah and king, but he's not mine and he can't just dictate law. You being a marxist dumazz can't understand that.

Bill Maher should move his whole operation to the utopia of Venezuela where he and hugo can can use force and anger on the unsupporting population . Why waste time in the USA when these dictatorial utopias exist in many places in the world already . Maher lacks intellegence and is grossly naive to human nature . I pity his family .

It just makes me wonder. The left wants to push through certain policies over the objections of the majority of the American people. They will do that behind closed doors, using fear and anger, and if necessary, by changing the rules of normal political discourse. What can be their vision for the type society that this type of lawlessness will produce? Is this how they would choose to live, by trickery, thuggery and deceit? I don't believe any of this has been well thought out by those advocating pushing the left-wing agenda at any cost. Actions have consequences. When the civil society breaks down, what are we left with?

Liberals tend to avoid expressing anger in any place where conservatives might get to them. They only go into their Keith Olbermann routine when they know they can get away with it, because they are very cowardly.

This is also why they should never have power, because while they will cringe, bow and scrape before those better than they, they demand such groveling subservience from their subordinates as well, as they stomp around in their petty tyranny mode.

Elected? Are you kidding? In Maher's opinion, he is far too important to have to seek the approval of the unwashed masses. I'm sure in his mind the fact the unwashed masses haven't proclaimed him king just proves how stupid we are.
