The Last-Minute Fight for Bart (Judas) Stupak's Health Vote
Yahoo ^ | 3/22/2010 | AY NEWTON-SMALL/TIME

Until Sunday, March 21, few out of Michigan's rugged 1st Congressional District, which stretches for 1,600 miles (2,575 km) along the Great Lakes, had ever heard of Bart Stupak. But as the clock ran out on health care reform, all eyes were on the Democratic Congressman. "How does it feel to keep the whole world waiting?" a reporter joked to laughter as Stupak entered a packed television studio on the third floor of the House of Representatives, hours before the expected vote on health care reform, to announce his decision. Flanked by six other pro-life Dems, Stupak finally brought an end to the suspense: he and his group would vote for health care reform, throwing Democrats over the 216 threshold of votes needed to pass the bill. (See why Bart Stupak opposed the health care legislation.)

The victory was not easily wrought. This was Stupak's third scheduled press conference in two days; the other two were abruptly canceled. On Sunday morning Democratic leadership sources leaked to reporters that there was a deal, rumors Stupak quickly quashed, saying he was still looking at the language of an Executive Order negotiated with White House Counsel Bob Bauer. It was not till 4 p.m. that he spoke to the press about the deal. "In the end, like the [Catholic] bishops, I wish that we could have had statutory language," Stupak said. "But we only have 44 votes in the Senate and I recognize that we just couldn't get something through. The Executive Order is better than nothing and I have every assurance it will stand." After the bill passed, Republicans tried to challenge it by bringing up Stupak's own arguments against it. Democrats responded dramatically by bringing up Stupak himself to defend the passage of the law.

Just heard on Ingraham he got a grant last week for his airport. The spirit of Murtha lives on.

Make sure that the voters in his district understand the IRS provision in this monster.

The voters in his district probably won’t have to worry about the IRS. They are on the receiving end.

All Democratic operatives are communists and criminals and has been taking the system for many years. Never doubt that the Democrat Party is the new Communists Party. Calling them anything else is foolish.

The spirit of Murtha lives on.

More true than you know. This joker is likely to stay in office forever because just like Murtha’s district, his really HAS NO LOCAL ECONOMY aside from Government largesse.

There were way too many Democrats and Democrat talking heads who were predicting that Stupak would vote for the bill. Added to that, MSNBC (The Official Administration Station) was reporting hours before anyone else that Stupak was voting for the bill.

Was this entire Stupak standoff just political theatre?

The Communists Party has bought our Government right from under us. They will continue to drive private enterprise out of business thereby creating more dependents on the welfare system. That is voters to them. Communists, all of them. We are living under the communists collective for many years. Soon they will purchase the brown shirts since nothing to stop them.

So it would seem, Stupak used the protection of the unborn as an excuse to extort a payoff. If this is actually the case, Mr. Stupak better pray there is no G_d. Except, I don't know who he would be praying to.

So people still believe in the myths of “pro-life Democrats,” “Blue Dog Democrats” and “moderate Democrats”?? Remember Lucy and the football in the Peanuts comic strip? There’s a lesson there, and lots of people haven’t figured it out. Lucy will promise until she’s blue in the face that she won’t pull the football at the last minute—and every single time, she does. The Rats will make promises until they’re blue in the face, but they’ll do the wrong thing every single time.

More likely, someone showed him his FBI file and “Wouldn’t it be a pity if this stuff got out?”

I posted this in another thread, but this one seemed more appropriate:

Would President Obama’s EO be considered a BRIBE to a U.S. Congressman?

Seems the deal was, “Here, you vote for the bill, and I’ll write an EO.” I know kickbacks in the same bill are allowed, but this was a separate action of voting on the bill.

Could both Obama and Stupack be named in a suit?

This was a scam from the beginning. Stupak was looking for an EXCUSE to make the vote he wanted to make all along. When the phony XO is shown to be the fraud it is, Stupak can claim he was lied to, or blame republicans...anything to con voters into believing that his pro life stance was genuine. There ARE no pro life democrats.

The airport grants are part of stimulus - many other districts in Michigan, including Republican districts, got similar money for empty unused airports.

See Muskegon and Hoekstra - $700k to “market” their airport.

I’m sure, but it did sound like some part of the bureaucratic machinery knocked loose for his chunk coincidentally last Friday.
