'Family Guy' Stages 'Terri Schiavo: The Musical' for Laughs

Seth MacFarlane marked the five-year-anniversary of Terri Schiavo's court-ordered death by staging a preschool musical about it in his crass FOX cartoon, "Family Guy."

MacFarlane denied Schiavo human dignity in the March 21 episode by referring to her in lyrics sung by cartoon preschoolers as "the most expensive plant you'll ever see" and a "vegetable," and noted "her mashed potato brains."

The child who played the role of Schiavo's husband, Michael, ultimately concluded, "There's only one solution, it's in the Constitution, we've got to pull the plug."

Schiavo died on March 31, 2005, after her parents fought numerous legal battles, appealing to the United States Congress and Supreme Court, to keep her alive, against the wishes of her husband.

A chorus representing pro-life protesters sang in the show, "Terri Schaivo is kind of alive-oh. What a lively little bugger ... Terri Schiavo is kind of alive-oh, the most expensive plant you'll ever see." A "doctor" sang, "Maybe we should just unplug her."

Bobby Schindler, the brother of Terri Schiavo, spoke to pro-life activist Jill Stanek about MacFarlane's treatment of his sister's death.

"This just validates what our family has been saying from the beginning: There is a deep rooted prejudice against people with these types of brain injuries," he stated. "And it's why killing these people is being accepted more and more every day ... by our culture and our nation."

Schindler warned pro-life activists at last year's March for Life about the hatred they should expect to receive from the "secular media." He also detailed some of the horrors he witnessed as his sister slowly died

"My sister Terri Schiavo died a cruel and barbaric death that no family should ever have to witness. Let me tell you, her two-week dehydration death was horrifying," he told activists. "Watching blood pool in her eyes as she was deliberately killed by court order, my family decided her death would not be in vain."

Unfortunately for Schindler and the rest of Schiavo's friends and family, MacFarlane decided her death could be played for laughs.

That must be that unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness he's referring to, although that's the declaration of independence, not the constitution.

The worst part about Family Guy isn’t the most offensive jokes like this, it is that they are an obnoxious talking piece for the left. That is why South Park is the best cartoon to get political satire from, they bash both sides.

Back to the offensive jokes, it isn’t just Palin and Schiavo folks. Those instances just shined the spotlight on Family Guy, what about all the blatantly racist and anti-semitic jokes? I think Jews should be as offended as any other group by the jokes that comes out of Family Guy.

Don't hold your breath.

McFarlene likes to think he's brave by producing such trash, but in fact he's just another liberal pussy who will only tread on safe ground.

Just some thoughts as I think back to the heroic keyboard activism by many on FreeRepublic for Terri. Her court-ordered death was the beginning of ObamaCare, despite the plea from a family who loved her and wanted to care for her. The State decided otherwise.

And now to see her death as an amusement ... conceived and performed with reference to plant life.

Yet there are those who continue to pray that the morally bankrupt and godless will step out of the darkness and into the light through the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is in obedience and love that we pray for repentance, for “God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9.

And may they do so while there is yet time, for God also warns in Galatians 6:7-8: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Choose life.

This just serves to shine the spotlight on the types of mentalities that are now controlling all our lives.

"Family Guy" isn't always supposed to be funny anymore, they do little skits in an attempt to outrage certain groups and get loads of publicity.

JFK and JFK Jr jokes usually fall flat, but I'm sure they cause outrage somewhere, the AIDS Musical for laughs was another.

Leaving aside the merits of "family guy" (which is very much "hit or miss") do you really really believe that the crass "South Park" is better because it just hits at everyone?

Personally, I think that is its biggest weakness. Its even-handed hatred doesn't make its fairer at all. Ultimately it's a show that anti-everything. Its anti-God, its anti-Human, its anti-caring. It's a show that fair because it drags everybody down. If you care strongly about anything, you are fair game for "South Park". The shows whole take is that anyone who cares is a fool, a dupe, a control freak and/or an interfering busybody. I once saw an interview with the creators where it was put to them that a particularly unpleasant episode might adversely affect children, to which the defensive reply came "frankly, we don't give a sh*t". Well, frankly, Messers Park and Stone, I DO give a sh*t. South Park may be surreal, and it certainly can be funny, but ultimately its more a cause for the decline of civilisation than Islamist terrorists or tyrranical politicians, because people can recognise the dangers they present.

..and yet we’re told by many Freepers “lighten up guys, it’s just a TV show.”

When someone tells me they like this cartoon, it gives me a pretty good idea what kind of person they are.
