Catholic Church Bargains With The Devil And Loses

Social justice is best pursued through fidelity to the Constitution of the United States, which was written by brilliant men who designed it as a restraint on government and a guarantee of individual liberty and responsibility.

The Catholic Church doesn't have a monopoly on virtue, and before it again pursues 'social justice' and 'change' at the expense of our institutions and traditions, it would be wise for it to remember that the road to perdition is paved with good intentions.

The question I have is: are you massively ignorant of the Church's position (supported everything except abortion and was critical of the rest because it didn't "go far enough") or are you just a liar.

I like your tag, actually.

If you're not a Catholic, it may be hard to tell the difference between Catholic organizations—some of which are faithful, and some of which were, in fact, formed by non-Catholics to fight the Church's teaching, such as "Catholics for a Free Choice," founded by Planned Parenthood. We Catholics have no control over them, and it's an unlonged-for compliment that they feel the Church is so important that her voice must be co-opted. Obama's campaign formed an astro-turf Catholic group or two in addition.

Separately, various elite orders of priests and nuns, including the Jesuits and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, were infiltrated by atheists, Stalinists, and modernists in the 20th century, and no more speak for the Church than Satan—who is an angel, after all—speaks for God. For instance, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which piped up in support of DeathCare shortly before the vote, has no teaching authority, and has been a heretical rubber-stamp of anything favored by the Soviet Union since the 1960s.

How little those two groups represent actual Catholics is indicated by, for instance, which nuns are getting the new vocations—not the old-line, Lefty orders, but the new, young, habited, conservative, orthodox ones, which have long waiting lists.

The US bishops' conference is usually useless—and like the nuns' group, has no teaching authority—but as a lobbying group, it did come out (too late) against DeathCare. The Church is not a corporation that quickly hires and fires, but her teaching is always clear: It is what is taught by the Pope and the bishops in communion with him, the Bible, tradition, and any approved catechism, such as Trent in 1575 or the CCC in recent decades. And her teaching has always been, and always will be, that good ends never justify sinful means. That means anyone who supports DeathCare and knows what he is doing is in for a warm hereafter.

You are just another exhibit in the thin skinned Catholic gallery, bub....

Yeah, I'm really a fool and an idiot: I see an article entitled "Catholic Church Makes Bargain With the Devil" and I interpret it as an attack on the Catholic Church.

Why, anyone would know that an article entitled "Southern Baptist Conference Makes Bargain with the Devil" isn't an attack on the Southern Baptist Conference! Right?

John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Minority Leader, is a Roman Catholic.

I'm crazy and stupid enough to just keep repeating that until the "Catholic Church is forcing Commiecare on us" cr*p goes away.

From Natural Law:

"She has likewise refused to accept, in the practice of "capitalism," individualism and the absolute primacy of the law of the marketplace over human labor."
The doctrines of man cannot override the principles of supply and demand, no matter how well-meaning they are.

Capitalism is simply the freedom for people to pursue their calling in life without the interference of artificial barriers enacted by either a majority or minority of sinful, fallible creatures. Capitalism has provided more charity and justice for more people than all forms of economic systems combined. That is a fact.

When men donned in robes, collars, or armor interfere with the exchange of goods or services in a free market, they create imbalances that ripple through the system in unforeseen and negative ways - causing unintended injuries and injustices, reinforced by negative feedback loops until it's no longer sustainable. I've seen this numerous times in less than 50 years.

If Catholics want to support "Social Justice", they need to support Capitalism in its true and free state, not this bastardized system devised by social justice advocates and crony capitalists.

that the majority of Catholics voted for Obama as a means to achieve “social justice”.

False. The truth is that a bare majority of Catholics -- the same percentage as the rest of the population -- voted for Obama.

As for why they did that, you can only guess.

If you restrict the selection set to only those Catholics who actually attend Mass weekly (meaning that they are at least somewhat obedient to the requirements of their faith), you have about a 4-percentage point win for McCain-Palin.

If you read the article you’ll see that it discusses these facts.

You are one of the most knee jerk RC’s I’ve seen.

Starting a thread with an article doesn’t equate to agreeing with all that article says. Moderators insist on using original titles so that duplicates may be minimized.

If you're not a Catholic, it may be hard to tell the difference between Catholic organizations

Actually I am, and I frequently hear pleas for social justice from the pulpit along with exortations to help the "poor immigrants" (illegal of course). Several years ago one of our parish priests went into such a rant against GWB that about 1/4 of the congregation walked out in the middle of the mass. He was reined in a bit, but the monsignor scolded the congregation the next week for walking out. We're frequently told that we should not be prejudiced against "immigrants." (despite the fact that they're sucking us dry) and despite the fact that wanting them to follow laws is not prejudice. So there may be some catholic organizations that aren't hard left Marxist, but the main bureaucracy of the church is. Remember these guys aren't elected - they basically have a life appointment and don't really have to make anyone happy except their boss who is usually as hard left as they are.

Maybe instead of reacting to the title you should consider reading the article in full.

Other than the personal attack, do you have a point?

Are you admitting now that the article is an attack on the church in general, or will you at least agree that the "Whore of Babylon" cr*p is an attack on the Church in general?

Gonna keep saying it:

John Boehner is a Roman Catholic.

From the early church, St. Augustine of Hippo reminded us of watching out for wolves coming among us in sheep’s clothing.

For my own part, I’d love to see the Church take a harder line on “Catholics” who do and promote exactly the OPPOSITE of what the Church teaches.

"In practice, however, Obama's stint as an Illinois state legislator bore little resemblance to the teachings or beliefs of the Catholic Church."

Thank you for making that important distinction, and many others. This is a fair-minded, informed article.

Take two steps back to gain a little more perspective, looking not at Obama, nor at legislators, but at the mitred teachers of the Faith. And the problem is not that the American Bishops and their USCCBTM trahison-des-clercs bureaucracy are too Catholic, but that they are not Catholic enough.

Okay. This is a flat-out lie:

The Church's pursuit of social justice via the avenue of government compulsion, however, led directly to the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States, a pro-abortion Democrat Congress, and the enactment of a law which commands the government to prey upon the least of us.

John Boehner is a Roman Catholic.

Thank you.

I think that was the point the article was trying to make...that the Catholic Church, as it pursues “social justice”, is drifting away from its own tenets.

As it pursues “social justice” the Church is getting involved with some people and ideoligies that are not worthy of Catholic theology.

Catholics are just so thin-skinned to see that as an attack on their church.

It’s not a lie. John Boehner is the minority leader. The Democrats control Congress and they are pro-abortion.
