This has to be demoralizing when troops can hear it.

Numerous reports on Petraeus' speech are on the internet but what is missing from every story I've seen are the quotation marks around the phrase - Can't kill your way out of war.

If it's not in quotation marks, did Petraeus say it or is it an interpretation by some reporter of what he said?

If Petraeus really said it, then where are the quotation marks?

General Petraeus, you’re the guy with experience here, not I, but I reckon it never hurts to try.

I agree what people are reacting to is the headline and did not watch the video...

They choose to ignore the lecture but get all emotional!

The point was unnecessary collateral damage

These poor famers are between a rock and a hard place.

But if our men use strategy so not to create more enmies but to get the job done with the least amount causualty.

The General also realizes there are times this method can not be employed.

In the long run we could win the war leaving a bitter taste to those who in the middle.

Would it not be better to gain allies along the way?

I hear what you are saying. Some of the problems were -
The terrorists who flew into the pentagon were already living in San Diego in 2000 and one was in the phone book.
That wonderful Clinton wall where CIA couldn’t talk to FBI
part of the problem

The Imam for these terrorists, Anwar al-Awlaki was b. in New Mexico. In the late 90s to 2000 Awalki lived in San Diego and got a degree at San Diego St. Univ.

He shortly went to Yemen where later he radicalized the
American born Jordanian Dr. via Computer and he shot and
killed several at Ft. Hood Awalke then face to face radicalized the Nigerian who tried to set off a bomb
over Detroit last Dec.

They are finding more and more American born Muslims or converted to Muslim (big place for this are the prisons)
Many in NY state who were planning terrorists attacks
and others in various other states.

This problem built up during the 90s when the WTC was bombed
in ‘93 and other attacks right to the USS Cole in 2000
being hit and several Americans killed.

Many in America were so focused on the Blue dress in the late 90s and Impeachment when we needed to focus on
World events and what was coming.

It was like a bad omen when Klinton was elected the 2nd time--I thought people had enough of him but they went back for more. He had a whole lot to do with setting the stage for 9/11 and the whole PC atmosphere, and yes, the Jamie Gorrelick wall!

Rush & others have talked about that wall many times. Don't know why Sandy Berger wasn't prosecuted for stealing secret info--or why he wasn't stopped in the act.

Take care, SoCal--you live in a "lively" place! (but the Fleet is there!)

You are so Correct. Clinton set the stage and I don’t think many even on our own side realize the disaster the
90s were.

It is also possible that, Casey and Gen. Petraeus are dancing on hell fire to protect the US; from the death blows that Obama and Mullen would deliver vis-a-vis their command replacements.
