Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy speak, but don't fight, through fashion
The Washington Post ^ | 03-28-10 | Robin Givhan

The ongoing narrative that precedes every meeting between first lady Michelle Obama and France's Carla Bruni-Sarkozy anticipates a fashion smackdown.

Make no mistake; each woman displays an especially confident way with her wardrobe. Bruni-Sarkozy, the former rock-star-dating model, has used the elegant lines and soft shades of gray from the quintessentially French brand Christian Dior to transform her gossip-magazine image into a stately persona. And Obama has used style to forge an image that is one part contemporary, accessible Everywoman and one part august, high-fashion enthusiast.

Yet rather than declare fashion a common interest that might draw the two women closer, it has been viewed as a source of antagonism and rivalry. Fashion has been treated like an international wedge issue.

Actually that dress isn’t half bad—Michelle actually looks nice—but it looks casual because of the lack of sleeves. I’m not an expert but it just doesn’t feel appropriate to be meeting heads of state in what looks like a sundress.

Go to the Post to see the Fashion Gallery (5 pictures that can’t be posted). They’ve posted past pictures of Michelle Ma Belle with Bruno that look like they consulted prior to dressing. One has a bow; the other has a bow. One has a slim skirt showing a lot of leg; the other has a slim skirt showiing a lot of leg. Both are in all black pants suits, but Bruni upstaged Michelle by adding a lilac swing coat. You’ve got to go to the link at the top of this page and then click on the picture of thel 4 of them to see these photos.

Oh, I went to the gallery that went with that story.
I was embarassed for the stupid looking garbs Mrs. Obama wore.
Several of them look like she grabbed the curtains off the bedroom window and wrapped them around her. Disgusting!

What is it about her always going sleeveless? Does she think that makes folks look at her arms instead of that mouthful of too many teeth?
For all the $$ we have to spend on that woman, I suggest she go to a dentist who can make her mouth look better.

Michelle has nicely toned arms and shoulders; why didn't they put her in a simple strapless number instead of this train wreck? No contest here.

Exhibit #1,579,086,504,392 (that’s Trillion) showing why one must be divorced from reality to be a leftist commentator. (Empress Michelle Antoinette has no clothes, but the State-run Socialist Media protests to the contrary.)

Ugly necklace, Michelle, with that outfit. It would have been so much better to wear a pearl or rhinestone chokeer or shorter length necklace instead.

Oh, wait, it would have to be a diamond choker purchased with tax payer dollars, wouldn’t it? Forget it, Michelle. LOL!

Whoa...is that a tumor??? I’ve seen enough pictures to know she’s got more cushion back there than my Tempur-Pedic, but that picture has been photoshopped...right?

Mostly, these women remain silent in these ceremonial situations. They stand in the background and strike a pose of nonchalant engagement

A picture is worth a thousand words.
