Networks Praise New Fuel Standards, Call Them 'Nothing Short of Historic'

New fuel standards make both the left and the media happy. It's easy to tell. There wasn't a single voice of opposition criticizing the latest act of Big Government on major prime-time news outlets ABC, CBS or NBC.

"Environmentalists are hailing the move as nothing short of historic," NBC's Lee Cowan said of the federal government's new fuel efficiency standards. The networks did much the same. Broad consensus from NBC's "Nightly News" and CBS's "Evening News" reflected praise for the Obama administration's latest regulatory efforts.

The federal government took a historic step April 1 to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. As part of a joint proposal by EPA and Transportation Department officials, the government implemented new fuel efficiency standards for all vehicles.

"This ends a debate that lasted nearly a decade," Cowan kicked-off the "Nightly News" segment. "But now that these so-called ‘clean-car standards' are going to be mandatory across the board, it makes it the first time ever that the federal government has limited greenhouse gas emissions."

I wouldn’t get too enthusiastic about this if I were the environmentalists (or the alphabets). If Obama has one consistent trait it is his willingness to toss aside anything that gets in the way of his personal advancement. Family, friends, faith, party, media, military, ideology have all been tossed aside when it was inconvenient for him. And the moment it appears the standards will endanger his fundraising or reelection chance, the enviros will be under the proverbial bus with the rest of us.

Talk about a toxic wasteland!

Yep.

But I think our plan would make it LESS toxic than it is today under neo-fascist rule.

I pity any businesses dependent on light trucks as they will become very expensive or non existent under this plan. Try hauling a load of hogs to market in a puny hybrid powered truck.

“Environmentalists are hailing the move as nothing short of historic,”

No, nothing historic about this. Commies have been dictating laws by fiat in this country every time a DemonRAT administration is in power. What will be “historic” is the backlash.

Newtonian Physics is what determines gas mileage.

The higher the MPG, the lower the Curb Weight of the vehicle.

Oh yeah, in terms of destruction of wealth and lives, it’d be orders of magnitude better than anything else that’s been done in decades.

Good news....Your “light” car will get you killed so the government won’t have to worry about a doctor bill. Yup...a win win for govt.

... and think of the savings in burial expenses. The car doubles as a coffin. What could be more green?!

Newtonian Physics is what determines gas mileage. The higher the MPG, the lower the Curb Weight of the vehicle Exactly!

My 6000 lb Chevy truck gets 13-14 mpg,and my 3100 lb Chevy car gets 25-28mpg.

My parents' 1970 Opel station wagon got 28mpg,it probably weighed less than 3000 lbs.

All this tinkering with fuel systems can squeeze out a few more points of efficiency at ever-increasing costs per percentage pointb but the laws of physics can't be changed by any government .Not even one lead by the Kenyan impostor.
