A lot depends on weather the shaking matches the resonant frequency of the water in the pool.

Very correct. Technically the sloshing is a "seiche" as occurs in any body of water up to large lakes.

From Azusa Pacific University's site concerning their Mexico Mission Outreach held during spring break;

April 4, 2010

Update: 04/04/10 at 4:55 p.m.

We received word from some of our staff currently in Mexicali that everyone is fine. Power is out at camp, and cell phone usage is spotty at the moment, so if you are trying to reach anyone at the camp, please be patient; it make take some time to get through. Again, everything appears to be fine at this point and staff are checking in with all teams. Praise the Lord. Please keep all those in Mexicali in your prayers during this second week of service.

Mexico Outreach Earthquake Update April 4th, 2010, 4:35pm
April 4, 2010

Over 1,000 team members from 29 churches are currently participating in Mexico Outreach in Mexicali, Mexico. We've experienced a 6.9 earthquake with an epicenter about one hour away.

There continues to be many smaller after shocks, but so far everyone is ok. We are in the process of confirming that all the teams around the city and in the valley are ok. Base camp has lost some power, and cell services are not all working.

We'll continue to update you as we find out more information. In summary, everyone in camp is ok, and we are still confirming that all our teams are ok around the city.

Today, just before 4 p.m., a 6.9 magnitude earthquake centered in Mexicali could be felt throughout Southern California. APU’s Azusa campus was not damaged.

We are checking in with staff and teams currently in Mexicali for Mexico Outreach.

Absolutely true, but reports of little or no damage are irresponsible.

Hi hennie pennie! :) Yeah I didn’t notice a thing! Probably because I was moving around. Had it hit only a few miutes before while I was inside and at my desk (posting on FR actually) then I definitely would have felt it.

“I am near the downtown area of San Diego and a few miles from the Harbor.”

Are you okay?

The worst damage would be in an assortment of suburbs of Mexicali to the Southwest.

Happy Easter to you too..a crazy day, but a pretty exciting day. I always know when something major happens, I always come here to get the latest info. thank goodness this one didn’t cause major damage, if we had a 7 in downtown LA, forget about it, goodbye house. I don’t think most houses would be able to survive that

just cracking soud. Bldg just fine.

The difference between the bldg codes in Southern Calif.
vs. others states is why we don’t have billions of dollars
in damage and loss of live.

Bldgs in most other states would not withstand earthquakes here.

A little unnerved at first but folks are fine here.

A woman is calling in from El Centro. Her hotel is being evacuated due to a large crack. I think it’s the Holiday Inn Express.

I am an earthquake sensitive, a 3.4 will wake me

I felt a 2.8 last year while awake, but it seemed more like a twitch then a quake.
