President Barack Obama not quite a White Sox expert
Chicago Sun Times ^ | April 6, 2010 | Kyle Koster

President Barack Obama wore a White Sox cap during his ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals game yesterday, but before any rabid Pale Hose supporters get too excited about it, they should know he had a bit of a problem naming any player by name.

The first fan was interviewed during the game's television broadcast by former Sox pitcher Rob Dibble, who asked the president about his favorite players on the South Side growing up.

This is was the point that the usually eloquent Obama began stammering.

"You know uh ..... I ... I thought that ... uh .... you know," Obama stalled. " ... The truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh ... I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh .... I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A's fan."

Yes, he did also call it "Cominskey Park." That, apparently, is something he does regularly.

One could make the case that Obama's point was that he didn't become acquainted with the Sox until later in his life, but I'd imagine most fans would have liked him to spit out at least one player's name.

So, big deal or not?

John Kerry was a blast! Lol

He was constantly trying to speak sports to be “one of the guys” and screwed it up every time. To me, it was one of the funniest parts of the election.

Buckeye football is the best football ever!, he cheered at a rally in Michigan. Lol what a dufus.

And now Obama is doing the same crap.

If you are not sincere then leave it alone. A sports fan will always know. Will these elitist, oh so superior, dummies never learn?

geeze...SOX won the WS in 2005. He could have said Ozzie Guillen and gotten away clean. Mark Buehrle & Paul Konerko were on that team and they’re with them today.

and I’m a CUBS fan and I absolutely have no clues about the White Sox.

That boy aint to quick on his feet.

Cubs fan eh? Must be a wine sipping effete snob.

Not like those gritty working class (multimillionaires) from the South Side.

It seems “The One” who was supposed to be so smart and sophisticated is more like a puppet, who know nothing unless it is on a teleprompter.

course, they DID ask him about his favorite Sox player when he was growing up.

On 2nd thought, I’ll give him a pass.

"So it is agreed. Coach Ditka has more knowledge in the smallest dirt particle in his right pinkie than obama has in his entire brain!"

If being an effete snob makes you a Cubs fan, I’m surprised 0bama isn’t in Wrigley. He lies again.

Do they sell arugula in the confession stands?

I think Geoff's hope is that McCain loses to JD Hayworth in the primary and Hayworth takes the seat in the general.

I think he’s showing what an insular life he’s lead and he comes out looking bland and colorless. It almost makes one think he was taken in hand and groomed to be the national clown. ;)

Me thinks that if he did name one the interviewer would have asked a question or made a remark that anyone knows and that would have left Barry high, dry and look like a fool with no answer

His throwing out the first pitch was one of the main stories on the Yahoo home page yesterday. When last I checked last night, there were over 4,000 comments. If they are any indicator, the country is frighteningly divided. Most of his supporters could only come up with “he’s better than Bush” and “he gave us free healthcare.” But the sheer number of those kinds of posts was really sad.
