Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI

April 11, 2010 Richard Dawkins: I Will Arrest Pope Benedict XVI Marc Horne

Atheist campaigner Richard Dawkins RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”.

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.

The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases.

This is the unspeakable depths to which the British have sunk to. They will hail a Castro or Ahmadinejad but seek to harass a saintly theologian. Try it Mr. Dawkins and just see how Catholic Italy will treat you.

As unspeakable as a pope ignoring complaints of sexual abuse by a priest? Gross.

Dawkins is an ass.

But the Roman Catholic Church has sheltered the worst types of criminals - child molesters - and as a former RC I find that horrific! It is exactly the kind of hierarchical excess that turned me away from the church in the first place.

Simple solution... bring the Swiss guards and when he shows up, arrest him.

When asked how the Vatican has jurisdiction, merely state that this is the Catholic church - aka: the universal church. Therefore it has jurisdiction everywhere.

:-P

Looks like Dawkins is ignorant, stupid and insane,

(Re his "quip" in 2008 that to not believe in evolution one must be either ignorant, stupid or insane.)

It will help if you do some reading up before rushing off to judgment. It is left to the local Bishop to discipline the offending priest. Even the NYTimes doesn’t some close to saying that the Pope “ignored complaints” but rather delayed the process for defrocking until matters were first resolved at the local level. The Congregation for Doctrine of Faith doesn’t act like some 5-star general.

Dawkins is a great writer, good for him. I am RC and appalled by this pope.

No, he won’t arrest him, you can’t, he is a head of state. But he is not a good man, and not deserving of the title of Pope.

Who is next on your list, Charles Nelson Reilly?

Hitchens has written extensively against Islam and was even accosted in Lebanon before he fought his way out of a possible abduction. Hitchens is a great writer and he backs up what he says and is not afraid of blowback from religion.

“Richard Dawson is just another fundamentalist religious fanatic.”

Truly spoken, he is a radical fundamentalist atheist.

Is he going to arrest all the imams in Britain who call for “marrying” ten year olds?

Oh yes. He’s not the one out to arrest the pope, now is he?

DawKINS, keeping our Richards straight.
