Wisdom declares "there is nothing new under the sun." Obama is the child spawn of the old radical left wing progressive movement. Who says Obama does not have a religion? Obama is their idol set up to be worshiped by the cult. In fact Obama is his own greatest devotee and he allows no opposition.

Might as well show it here ( cartoon drawn during the FDR era Great Depression) :

This is a 1934 Chicago Tribune political cartoon that many say rings true in today's political and economic climate. What do you think?

The same fears over deficit spending to get out of recession; the same fears over where all that Federal spending would lead.

But FDR never declared a dictatorship, not even after Pearl Harbor, when it would have been easiest to do it. And this was back before Red Socialism had been completely discarded as a viable political model. Were the fears about America’s future then unjustified?

The Chi Tri wouldn’t dare run such a ‘cartoon’ today, lest they be charred by the Admin....

No...I merely suspect they'd be afraid of being overwhelmed by the number of readers requesting that it be explained to them.

If FDR hadn’t died in 1945, who knows the depression might still be raging.

Truman said he would continue FDR-ville Keynesian economics, spend like there is no tomorrow, and promptly got tossed out of office.

Keynesian strange it is similar to Kenya...

Yeah just needs an update on names. Otherwise so true.

Do we have the guts and stamina to hold the country together until we can get the varmints voted out.. It is only 6 1/2 months. That’s no time at all in the larger scheme of things.

Incorrect. Truman won a term of his own in 1948 in a four-way race. He chose not to run in 1952, even though the 22nd Amendment allowed him to, because of the unpopularity of the Korean War.

But FDR never declared a dictatorship

FDR was "El Presidente for life", he didn't need to declare it, FDR was elected four times and eventually died in office.

Incorrect, Truman ran on continuing FDR socialism, and then people figured out he meant it ... read history, instead of flap-trap web sites.

I am glad the Fascist FDR died, or else it would be much worse for America.

In 1952 Ike ran against FDR Socialism.

Obama-commie sure isn’t no FDR.

We can barely make it if we are lucky. Varmints, Polecats and Vermin will be outta there soon. Obama will take a little longer.

Which is why the Republicans took Congress in 1946. But you were incorrect when you stated Truman was thrown out of office. Truman won a term of his own in 1948.

Eisenhower didn't run against FDR socialism; in fact he did nothing to repeal any New Deal programs. Robert Taft was the Republican who wanted to roll back the New Deal, but the Republican Establishment backed Eisenhower because he -- and they -- understood that the New Deal programs were popular with the people.

It was Korea and the Cold War that elected Eisenhower.

You need to re-read your history books.

I like Ike campaign was opposed to FDR ... Ike did nothing to repeal the new deal programs, because by then they were for the most part declared unconstitutional and destroyed. The legacy of FDR Fascism was short and disposed of quick. The only thing of import that lived on was Social Security, which the people thought was retirement insurance account instead of just a tax scam, as FDR intended it. FDR was almost as bad about lying to the people as Obama-commie is.

You vote for Obama-commie? Sounds like it ... How’s the hopey-changey thing working out for you. Just plain old style socialism.

Stalin had a name for Obama-zombies, “useful idiots” he used to call them. He referred to other countries, but everybody knew it wasn’t just US liberals he meant.

cheers

FDR was dead, and his programs were a part of the American fabric. Had Taft gotten the nomination, the campaign would have been about rolling back the New Deal, particularly because Taft wanted McCarthy as his running mate. However, the Republican Establishment didn't want to open that can of worms.

The first batch of New Deal programs were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but during FDR's second term, he managed to get enough of his own people on the Court to stop blocking his programs. What ended most of the New Deal programs was World War II, which put people back to work. Social Security wasn't the only New Deal program to survive. Farm subsidies, federal welfare, government regulation and the requirement for industry to collectively bargain with unions all survived the New Deal. Even today, those programs are all in existence.

You vote for Obama-commie? Sounds like it ... How’s the hopey-changey thing working out for you.

You have been shown to be wrong on the topic of American history, and your only response is to declare an individual who disagrees with you to be an Obama supporter? That is the refuge of the ignorant. People at this site who know me know that I go to great lengths to avoid flaming a fellow FReeper. I prefer to gently correct when I encounter someone who doesn't have his facts straight. But your posts on this subject are not only factually incorrect, their tone is disgraceful. This is not how FReepers are supposed to behave.

Nice to see this cartoon getting MSM (sorta) exposure.

George Will is the personification of a safe mainstream conservative, and even he in his latest column details Obama's Cloward-Piven plan.

Believing that a crisis is a useful thing to create, the Obama administration — which understands that, for liberalism, worse is better — has deliberately aggravated the fiscal shambles that the Great Recession accelerated...

In the context of this concatenation of troubles, the administration's highest priority was to put an enormous new health-care entitlement on the welfare state's rickety scaffolding. Why? Because the liberals' lunge to maximize government's growth depends on quickly creating a crisis that can be called a threat to the entitlement menu and to the currency as a store of value. Then the public can be panicked into accepting the addition of a VAT to the existing menu of taxes.

If George Will agrees with it, it isn't a looney conspiracy theory.

It was also the fact that Eisenhower was a World War 11 hero and that also played a big factor.
