Reports: Feds launch probe into Florida GOP By Jordan Fabian - 04/21/10 08:19 AM ET

The FBI and IRS have launched a criminal investigation into the Republican Party of Florida's issuing of credit cards to elected officials and staff, according to media reports.

The probe could affect the tumultuous Florida Republican Senate primary. An IRS inquiry is probing the tax returns of campaign front-runner Marco Rubio, former state party chairman Jim Greer, a close ally of Rubio's opponent Gov. Charlie Crist and another state GOP official.

The statements are being examined to see if the men used party credit cards improperly for personal use.

Former Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom is said to be the original target of the probe, which is being investigated separately. He allegedly included $6 million in the state budget for an airline hangar for a friend of a campaign donor.

Greer resigned in January after coming under pressure for overspending.

Rubio's campaign has denied that the candidate engaged in wrongdoing.

Here is more from the St. Petersburg Times:

Let me guess. The ‘Feds’ will coincidentally release a report about 3 weeks before the Nov election, and Rubio will somehow be highlighted.

When are are Feds going to launch a probe into all the untraceable credit card contributions that came into the 0bama campaign, mostly fro Palestinian and Middle East terrorist sources?
If I were the Florida GOP, I'd immediately launch a campaign to find out where some of the 0bama campaign money came from?

GOP Senators should demand the appointment of an independent prosecutor to investigate the investigation as a case of Executive abuse of power by using the law-enforcement arm of the Federal Government to influence an election.

This is an example of how viciously liberal Marxists in America attack conservative blacks, Hispanics and women.

It would be nice if th eJustice Dept. would look into all the anonymous money collected by Obama Jr during the campaign... Federal law does not require the campaigns to identify donors who give less than $200 during the election cycle. However, it does require that campaigns calculate running totals for each donor and report them once they go beyond the $200 mark.

Surprisingly, the great majority of Obama donors never break the $200 threshold.

“Contributions that come under $200 aggregated per person are not listed,” said Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the FEC. “They don’t appear anywhere, so there’s no way of knowing who they are.”

The FEC breakdown of the Obama campaign has identified a staggering $222.7 million as coming from contributions of $200 or less. Only $39.6 million of that amount comes from donors the Obama campaign has identified.

It is the largest pool of unidentified money that has ever flooded into the U.S. election system, before or after the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reforms of 2002.

But that would be asking too much.

$ 222.7 million dollars in $ 200 or less?

Hmm, if every one of those folks gave $ 195.00, that would be 1,140,000 donors.

If they all gave an average of $ 50.00 each, that would be 4,454,000 donors.

If they gave an average of $ 25.00, that would be almost nine million donors.

Seriously, how many people give to a campaign?

And don’t forget about the credit card scam with the phony names for a lot of the donati0ons to the Obama campaign?

Every donation form I have seen requires you to identify yourself, so how can they say there is $222.7 million from people who cannot be identified?

Friends: I need your help. I am FURIOUS that Charlie Crist has pushed for this investigation. I want to call his office today and fax it as well. Can someone help me get a good email, number and fax that would have the most impact? When I saw him in that debate on FOX, attacking Rubio for spending a little money on repairing his family's mini-van and buying a couple of tracks on itunes, I was angry at the pettiness that Crist sank to. To attack a young family man for dipping into a couple of bucks for his family's car is despicable. I hope Rubio kicks his ass!

Look how this article points out this fact FIVE paragraphs down:

Meanwhile, in a separate inquiry, the IRS is also looking at the tax records of at least three former party credit card holders -- former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, ex-state party chairman Jim Greer and ex-party executive director Delmar Johnson --to determine whether they misused their party credit cards for personal expenses, according to a source familiar with the preliminary inquiry. They say they can't afford their own health care. They can't afford rent. They can't afford food.
Imagine what they could do to help the poorest among them if they used all this money for something good. Instead, they waste it, and make the taxpayers pick up the tab.
Obviously, we've been giving them way too much of our money. If they can afford to waste it, it's time we cut back on some of their social programs.

Is there anyone that will ask honest questions about this allegation against Rubio etc?
I have worked for 2 companies that issued credit cards in the company name and assigned to one person (American Express, Joe Blow for example) That person was encouraged to use that card for both business and personal expenditures. However, when you submitted your expense report you only claimed reimbursemet for the business expenses. The employee was responsible for paying for their own expenses. Is that the situation here?

There is no "situation." It's the power of the accusation. It plants a seed in the minds of the voters that says Rubio did something illegal.
This so called "investigation" will carry on until his poll numbers destroy him. It doesn't matter what the truth is.

Yes, you are right about that....But isnt there someone with cojones in the Florida GOP (or these 3 themselves) that can stand up and explain the situation? And hammer home that there is no “there” there? A simple business accounting situation is easily explained, with documentation. No need to defend it but explain it. Shower the situation with light. The concept is pretty simple and I have explained it to more than one brainiac in my working life.

This shows BHO and his minions are terrified of Rubio and not limp-wristed Christ. Democrats are scared of any strong minority conservatives and thats why they attack minority conservatives without mercy.

Once the accusation is made, the seed is planted. Only by planting another seed will this one be smothered. If Rubio is clean, he should flaunt his cleanliness with a smile and cooperation. As a matter of fact, he should offer to open the doors for them.

Sounds like the same nonsense they went after Palin for. It’s called the politics of personal or group destruction.

Of course the leftists would rather have the RINO Crist as the GOP candidate. Marxist politicing has been ugly for a long time. It’s gonna get much much worse. I just hope Rubino and his folks have foreseen this attack and planned accordingly.

Every conservative candidate needs to make doubly sure their house is clean. And they need to be prepared to jump right back at them. Heck, I wouldn’t even wait. If that’s the way the dems want to fight, conservative candidates should be demanding Fed and/or State investigations into all demrat candidates. Might as well get this over with in one big push rather than allow oneself to be killed by small cuts.

Yep. Suggest all the doors be opened, both the Republicans and democrats in Florida. Offer to open the doors for the investigators. Ask for transparency for all. Ask that this campaign be kept fair from the beginning to the end. The voters have a right to know who and what they're voting for on BOTH the left and right.

Use their own rules against them. Rubio could turn this around if he shines like a light on a hill.

Won't work. It's a negative. Rubio has to use a positive to rise above it.
Use their OWN rules against them. "Share" all the information, both left and right. Investigate BOTH parties in the name of "Transparency" and "Equality", or "Justice."
You know the left wouldn't want that. They'd be on the defensive if the voters wanted THEM to open THEIR books as well. If Rubio can turn this around so the voters want to see ALL the books, the left would most certainly have to back off. (Imagine what their books must look like!)

My sense is people are so angry with this BS that the dems will lose even more indies if they persist with this crap.

The reality is that we’ve seen their playbook tactics repeated over and over again. Their play book is not really that deep, it’s just that otherwise good people have permitted them to get away with it for too loong. Up to now, though, arguments against the left were more or less hypothetical. For example, if you vote socialist you’ll lose personal rights and have to pay more taxes. Now, the argument has transcended the hypothtical. Most thinking people understand the hugh costs associated with Onadacare and Tax and Trade.

Marxists cannot hide anymore.

I hate to play the race issue here - but that's all this is. Why don't they launch investigations into the Dems across the country who do the same thing? As an earlier poster noted - MSNBC has been runnin’ wild trying to implicate Rubio and thus, destroy him. They did the same to Clarence Thomas, they'll do the same to Allen West and his incident in Iraq. Without the narrative that the GOP is nothing but white racists - the MSM has nothing to talk about. They can't debate the issues.
