TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The backlash against Arizona's tough new crackdown on illegal immigration is now beginning to affect enrollment at the University of Arizona. In a campus-wide e-mail sent out Thursday morning, university president Robert Shelton states, "The families of a number of out-of-state students (to date all of them honors students) have told us that they are changing their plans and will be sending their children to universities in other states."

Shelton goes on to express concern about the impact of SB 1070. He said the decision of students to withdraw "should sadden anyone who cares about attracting the best and brightest students to Arizona."

But at the same time, Shelton indicated the University does not plan to defy the law. He writes, "UAPD, which is one of the finest police operations anywhere, will be receiving extensive training on the specifications of the new law. I have total confidence that they will abide by the letter of the law, which includes a provision that individuals may not be stopped solely on the basis of race, color or national origin."

I am calling Bravo sierra on this. if more than 2 actually pulled their kid out of enrolling who cares?
Why would any parent send a supposedly smart kid out of state to a Tier 3 university where they would be paying more than if this “ honor student” went to a school in their home state?

What about a state upholding an existing federal low would be considered a negative?

BS

The article doesn't specify how many "families" are Oh-Fended. Two is a number.

I didn’t see anything in the article about anybody actually self deporting, just students threatening to do so.

Now, we need to focus on getting Meghan McCain to leave Arizona.

Yeah, I’m all broken up about it.

Nobody does this without good reason. I suspect the good reason is that these families are illegal aliens.

I’m happy too onyx. I’m so proud of our state, just about everyone is standing stronger today then they were the day it was passed. I am so looking forward to locking arms with my fellow Americans in Texas, Utah, Ohio, and every state that stands with us. I guess Americans aren’t the wimps they thought we were, we were just too busy trying to make a living to notice.

Someone should send this guy a FOIA request for the names and copies of the letters/e-mails he is referring to.

He is probably just making this up.

LOL, all we have to do is not re-elect McCain and I’ll bet the entire family will move out of Arizona.

Gays and Lesbians from San Francisco won’t come

Illegals are leaving the state

And now lib students won’t come
