TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The backlash against Arizona's tough new crackdown on illegal immigration is now beginning to affect enrollment at the University of Arizona. In a campus-wide e-mail sent out Thursday morning, university president Robert Shelton states, "The families of a number of out-of-state students (to date all of them honors students) have told us that they are changing their plans and will be sending their children to universities in other states."
Shelton goes on to express concern about the impact of SB 1070. He said the decision of students to withdraw "should sadden anyone who cares about attracting the best and brightest students to Arizona."

But at the same time, Shelton indicated the University does not plan to defy the law. He writes, "UAPD, which is one of the finest police operations anywhere, will be receiving extensive training on the specifications of the new law. I have total confidence that they will abide by the letter of the law, which includes a provision that individuals may not be stopped solely on the basis of race, color or national origin."

LOL, Oh Noz! What will we do without all those “honor” students. Want to bet most are illegals and they’re getting their education on our taxpayer dollars?
This is the opposite of collateral damage. Now if we can just make the rest of the country this intolerable for these ass clowns.
“Liberal University of Arizona Students Self- Deport”
You can’t argue with success!!
Don’t let the door hit them in the but on the way out. now there will be more rom for students from AZ
That's because they wanted to receive in-state tuition rates like the illegal aliens do...
Isn’t EVERYBODY an “Honor Student” at most universities these days?
If these morons want to leave then let them. Who really cares?
What will we do without all those honor students.
I guess AZ will have to nix all those rocket scientist facilities they were going to build. Oh, well ;)
Obviously, these students are “liberals”,
which automatically excludes them from the
designation of “best and brightest”.
Now they have more room for conservative thinkers
who don’t wrap their self worth around how
they feel about particular issues.
Exactly, and U of A in particular is a big party school. I went there for grad school and that was a different story, but it seemed like the undergrad courses I sat in on were jokes. And this was already a few years ago.
...stand tall Arizona...don’t let those Lefties wear you down.
ps...we went thru all this kinda boycott stuff in South Carolina a while back over the Confederate flag at the state capital...nothing came of it.
Looks like the bill is paying dividends and it hasn’t even gone into effect. For once, government gets it right!
Maybe by next year we can send our kids to Az. College to get real good Edu. after all the illegals out then ours will learn something College maybe.
I have a sister who lives there might think about moving there soon myself.
Getting rid of all the illegals AND all the liberals? Should have done this sooner.
Wow - we need to pass these laws in other states. :)
No doubt they are all majoring in “Latino Studies” or “Gender Studies”.
Welll... Bye!
So Johnny or Melissa are going to pack up and self-deport? And run off to another state’s university?
Ok, but just a word of warning to Johnny or Melissa’s parents...credits from University X...don’t always shift to University Y. So when you bring up their past program...two full years of study...and the new counselor smiles to say that most credits will shift but Johnny will have to take five classes that he probably already took in some fashion...ask yourself how much time and money this represents. $5k? Are you willing to throw away another entire quarter and $5k on tuition, plus $4k on food, booze and board expenses?
Total number of liberal U of A students that will actually carry out this threat? I lived in Tucson for four years in the late 80’s....so I know this mentality. I’m guess and say about forty folks will actually carry out their threat, and ten will be back within twelve months.
You go to a college to learn something. The minute you attach anything beyond that....you are turning your goals into a joke. You basically are allowing some dimwit professor at the college or protest group at the college to run your life and probably screw up your educational chances.
I think I need to go ahead an book my family vacation to Arizona...
I feel a song coming on
“Are you going to San Francisco?”
Our universities have mastered the science of cramming one years’ worth of education into four.
