Last week the Walton County Sheriffs Office and Emergency Operations held townhall meeting to discuss the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
During that meeting, officials asked for any idea's for dealing with the oil should it come to our county.
Wouldn't ya know, leave to good ole American ingenuity.
No need for adding more chemicals into the Gulf.
No need for booms that are 90% ineffective.
And the solution is about as green as it gets.
Answer, hay and bahia grass.

Click the link and watch the video. The second or third one down. I think they are both the same.
FYI, the guys in the video are with the local road building and repaving company.
BTW, they showed BP officials at a meeting in neighboring Okaloosa County the same thing. Apparently they had never heard of hay being used and were quite amazed at the results.

Well, living in and working for Okaloosa County, I've found it doesn't take much to amaze the County Managers. They still think hot and cold running water is kind of neat... Think I'm kidding? Go to the Taj Mahal (County Water and Sewer Building on Lewis Turner Blvd), there's no running hot water in the entire building.

These guys are awesome. I watched the video. After he scooped the hay out, the water was clear. The oil companies have billions and too old farmer good old boys figured out a cheap solution with hay. Great job.

In the 70's, when we had to do an overhaul on the tractor engine, we just used plain old hay mats to sop up the oil. Hay has been used this way for at least 75 years or more.

Rice and wheat hulls also work and you can blow it out with a hose.
It's even cheaper than hay.
In fact any kind of cellulose works. Saw dust, wood chips, ground up newspaper.
Everything just sticks together in a big mass and makes it easy to pick up.

Just ask...someone usually has an answer. Of course, this solution is too simple to be acceptable to the like of the EPA, the 0bamunists, and likely BP.
Sad, indeed.
Turn ‘em loose on the problem, get it solved, and let’s move forward.
