Wish like hell there was something I could do to protect my 401k.

Can you make changes to allocations of your 401K? Just before the last fall I put it all into the money market and when the market went down 30% I was still earning about 4%.

Aside from cashing it out and taking the hit now, rather than risk Obumbles taking it away from you later? Talk about your devil's choice...

Wish like hell there was something I could do to protect my 401k. You only lock in these losses if you move stuff around. It's virtual money. Unless you are very well off, your 401k probably still adds up to much more in total value then the value you yourself put into it.

Wish like hell there was something I could do to protect my 401k. I feel for you dude. I had enough choices in my semi-self-managed 403(b) plan that I could move it all to cash, which I did a few months ago. I would be beside myself if I was in your shoes. I've got many friends in the same place as you, who were forced into Colorado's state retirement plan (PERA), and have zero control over how PERA manages their money.
