Facebook turns on Palin
Politico ^ | 5/06/10 | Andy Barr

Former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin's endorsement of Carly Fiorina in California's Senate race has prompted a fervent blowback on her Facebook page, long Palin's safe haven for delivering her message.

The revolt is coming from Palin supporters who also back Chuck DeVore – a tea party favorite who is campaigning against Fiorina in the Republican primary.

Palin’s Facebook page is littered with comments opposing her endorsement of Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

“The only REAL CONSERVATIVE is Chuck DeVore. Fiorina is a RINO and we don't need any more of those in [California],” one irate commenter wrote. “Why wouldn't you back Chuck DeVore???”

“Sorry Sarah but I think Chuck DeVore is the conservative candidate you should be supporting,” added another, who was followed up by a DeVore supporter who wrote: “I don't agree with this endorsement AT ALL! What are you thinking Sarah?”

The question is why didn’t Palin endorse DeVore — who is clearly the more Conservative candidate — a month ago in Searchlight ? The idea that DeVore doesn’t have the money to run is an excuse.

If Palin had stumped for him, and held fundraisers for him, he WOULD have the money by now to have competed with Fiorina and Campbell in the TV ad race. Then where would the polls stand ?

Senate Majority Leader McConnell sounds a whole lot better than Schumer.

DeMint should have that slot when it opens up. He will have done more to advance the party’s causes.

Hello, it’s California

Remember all the purists demanding votes for McClintock.

Sometimes you simply cannot force people to figure out their own best interests.

There is no virtue in losing.

I’m not a conservative because I complained about Palin endorsing liberals? How do comments like that make me not a conservative?

Your statements are correct. That is one of the reasons that I take Sarah’s word with a grain of salt. She is suppose to be a Conservative (not a Republican) and that does bother me a bit.

Others here may excuse her for that (at least understandable) but to me, you either believe in what you say or you are just another politician.

“go with who has the best chance of winning”. I’ve heard that one way too many times.

pissant shouldn't get too cocky with your support. It's subject to whim and changes daily.

I’m involved in the political process of American voters electing it’s leaders.

If I want to get stoned and fantasize about super heroes and forget about electoral politics then I can just write in my own name or one of my conservative drinking buddies that ran for congress once and will not be elected either.

If you like Campbell or Boxer then continue to play your games and pretend that America does not elect it’s leadership. If you don’t like them, then participate in the process to replace them.

“Practical” is how we got Schwarzeneger instead of McClintock.

“Practical” is how we got McAmnesty instead of Thompson.

“Practical” is why so many people are convinced there is no real difference between the GOP and the Dims.

2010 is the first election in a long time where spending, deficits, and taxes are on the top of voters’ minds. This is the year to highlight the differences by pushing real fiscal conservatives for the GOP ticket.

Not exactly what you wrote. An old adage is that the cover up is often worse than the original incident. LOL, keep going ...

I haven’t been following this one closely as we have our own soap opera here in Utah, but why is Fiorina referred to as a RINO? If she is endorsed by N. Right to Life and supports 2nd Amendment rights, is that not our position on FreeRepublic (generally speaking)? I would imagine her background would be pro-business and anti tax.

I’m not sure what else we should hope for, especially from California.

Something must have happened when she met with him. He did go to Searchlight trying to get her endorsement, maybe he rubbed her the wrong way and she changed her mind about him. Who knows. From what I read he does have money, people have donated to his campaign, but he doesn’t promote himself which he needs to do if he wants to have any chance at all. Not one TV ad, how can people get to know him if no one knows who the heck he is

You snark about Sarah Palin who has done more in leading Conservatives the past few years than anyone else.

The idea is the most votes win. The wannaBies will never reach the leadership of Sarah or the crowds she draws and energizes

No not at all. I never said any such thing. I was going by your statement - a bit anti-Palin before...

“You are very brave pissant. The Palinistas are out in full force tonight......”

I was assuming that such a statement meant that you were anti Palin. It is reasonable to assume that you know...

If not, I apologize, but you really should clarify at some point... Sure, maybe you were just warning about the pro-Palin backlash, but it was not really clear.

You are right. There is no virtue in losing. BUT-—You LOST! Big Effin time. By electing a worthless, dumbsh*t RINO that not only ruined the entire state, but screwed the party over 7 ways til sunday — so now all that remains are quivering jellyfish voting for idiots like Fiorina AND PRETENDING SHE’S CONSERVATIVE.

I’d like to know the percentage of those who are going on her wall and trashing her about her Fiorina endorsement actually live in California

Out of curiosity, does Palin perhaps see Fiorina as being more electable, do you suppose?

Not that I fully agree with using such calculus for endorsements; but perhaps Palin figures that California will never elect a Conservative anyway so she's trying to support the Republican she thinks has the best chance of winning.

What do you think?
