ABERDEEN TEST CENTER, Md. -- The Army is set to send its high-tech "counter defilade" weapon to the war zone in the next few months, the first real-world deployment for the much-anticipated XM-25 Individual Airburst Weapon.
Officials announced May 5 that a group of Army Special Forces Soldiers will take the weapon with them to Afghanistan sometime this summer.
During live-fire demo here, Soldiers shot the Heckler & Koch-made XM-25's high-explosive rounds through the window of a simulated building, showering "enemy" mannequins inside with lethal metal fragments.
Afghanistan veterans who fired the weapon for the first time this week predicted it would be a "game changing" weapon, a gun that can engage Taliban insurgents using distant ridge-tops, thick mud walls and tree lines as cover.

Twenty for so pounds of gun and fairly simple to defeat if in a prepared positon. Probably not a lot of advantage in close or long range mobile engagements.

Ummmm do you know how long it's been since the Bazooka round actually saw combat? Like maybe the Korean War. It's since been replaced by the 90mm recoiless rifle (which was in my active duty unit -- the last unit in the army to have those) and then later replaced by a generation of fire and dispose rockets like the LAAW series and later the VIPER and who knows what else by now. If the technology is reliable under combat conditions then any expense is worth it!
It’s better than a grenade launcher because you can precisely control the range at which the grenade explodes in flight rather than waiting for it to hit something.
If a bad guy is behind a wall, you laze the wall and get the range. Then you shoot over the wall and the grenade explodes 2-3 meters above and behind the guy hiding behind the wall.

I remember the documentary of how they calculate the range fuzing, its all about how many revolutions and the microprocessor that signals the fuzing.
