Man, 22, turns himself in after girl says she had relationship with him

ODESSA, Texas - A 22-year-old man accused of posing as a high school basketball star in West Texas was charged with sexual assault Friday after an underage girl reported having sex with him last summer when she thought he was a teenager, police said.

Guerdwich Montimer was arrested for the third time in four days, this time after a 16-year-old girl in Odessa told police and school district officials she had sex with him at a home in August when she thought he was 15-year-old Jerry Joseph, said Odessa police Cpl. Sherrie Carruth.

Officials said Montimer enrolled at a junior high school and later at Permian High School last year with a fake birth certificate from Haiti. Suspicions were raised recently after coaches at an amateur basketball tournament said they recognized Joseph as Montimer, a 2007 graduate of a Florida high school and a naturalized U.S. citizen from Haiti.

Montimer was being held in jail Friday on a $50,000 bond, according to a court affidavit released Friday.

Montimer was originally arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of failure to identify himself to a police officer, and school officials said he admitted that he wasn’t Joseph. He was arrested again Thursday on a third-degree felony charge of tampering with a government document.

A jail official said Friday there was no information about whether Montimer had an attorney. The sexual assault charge, a second-degree felony, carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Based on information provided by the girl,

a handful of freepers on this very thread have mentioned relatives and other teenagers who are this tall, so all i am saying is that it’s not as rare as you are making it out to be, such that someone would have been a MORON to have missed this guy being an imposter. and i agree that kids appear to be taller in this day and age than they were back in my day, and maybe it’s something that the cows are treated with now that ends up in the milk or something, i have no idea.

*** a handful of freepers on this very thread have mentioned relatives and other teenagers .... ***

Yes and I've clarified my first comment to them or most (I can't type 100 wpm). My only point is "average height for a 16 yo" in this article. That is, and was all.

And fwiw our own two daughters are taller than 'average' or 'normal'. Our youngest could have could have been a Model, as she fits the requirements exactly - thin and very pretty, but she wanted to be a Teacher and teach kids to read (her 'specialty'). But now she works with only the 'special children' in 1st and 2nd grade. So much for the big bucks of a Professional Model.

And now I have to look 'UP' to our oldest daughter too. So both are taller than 'average, or 'normal' for women. (and when they were a tad younger they played Basketball too).

So have nice day, I have to get to work.

My youngest son is 14, 6’3, 240 lbs and wears a 17 shoe. But he LOOKS young. Its not about size. Its about ones muscular nature, bone structure, how they carry themselves etc. If you talked to my son for 5 minutes, you’d realize that he was younger than he looks.

In addition, I teach high school. I’ve taught 15 year olds who were 6’9 and graduated 6’9, and I’ve taught freshman who were 6’1 and graduated 6’9. People see what they want to see. These coaches wanted a pheenom.

“Okay class, now how many people would think that someone who is 6’-5” is only 16 years old?”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Actually that is not at all impossible. People average being taller now than they did a couple of generations ago. I was born in ‘44 and I am about 6’4” barefoot, I was over six feet at sixteen and I had a classmate who dropped out of school before turning sixteen who was already 6’6”. One of my younger brothers had a classmate I remember well, the kid was 6’1” and weighed 195 at TWELVE years! The grade school they attended went through seventh grade and there was a graduation ceremony with a certificate awarded. This boy’s mother took him to a men’s store and told the sales person that she wanted to buy him something nice for his graduation, the salesman looked at the boy and asked what COLLEGE he was graduating from! Oddly enough when he reached college age he was not a whole lot taller or heavier than he was at twelve. There are exceptions to the norm.

I figured this would come up when the story first broke. My HS experience must have been atypical. All I wanted was out of high school. Most of the girls I dated then were in their early twenties. I did distributive education to get out of half the classes.
There are stories, though, that break occasionally, about young looking twenty to twenty-five year olds who go back to HS and pass for HS students. There are also movies that frequently come out about underage cops or reporters that return to HS. Apparently, there are a lot of people who want to go back to HS. For me? Yuckster. I prefer the whole wide world.

I don't know...Hulk Hogan was 6' tall and near 200 lbs. when he was 12 years old. Some of the people who are going to ultimately be very tall hit their growth early.

Use a fake birth certificate- have sex with 15 year old- go to prison.

Use phony COLB- get elected president- never reveal actual identity- defraud the whole country-go to white house.

“Being 6’-5” when you are only 16 is not normal. Not for kids of any race.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Being that tall at thirty is not “normal”, after all the official definition for a male giant is 6’6” or above. That doesn’t mean it is impossible.

We had three sisters who rode our HS bus and the tallest was 6' 3". The other two were not much shorter. They all had to duck when exiting the bus. Mom and dad were both well over 6' as well.
