GOP's Utah and Maine conventions show a party coming unglued
The Washington Post ^ | May 16, 2010 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 05/15/2010 5:10:55 AM PDT by Jim Noble

Future historians tracing the crackup of the Republican Party may well look to May 8, 2010, as an inflection point.

That was the day, as is now well known, that Sen. Robert Bennett, who took the conservative position 84 percent of the time over his career, was deemed not conservative enough by fellow Utah Republicans and booted out of the primary.

Less well known, but equally ominous, is what happened that same day, 2,500 miles east in Maine. There, the state Republican Party chucked its platform -- a sensible New England mix of free-market economics and conservation -- and adopted a manifesto of insanity: abolishing the Federal Reserve, calling global warming a "myth," sealing the border, and, as a final plank, fighting "efforts to create a one world government."...

Beck justifiably credited his viewers for "what happened to Bob Bennett in Utah." He warned: "People in Washington, you should be terrified."

We should be terrified -- particularly the Republicans, whose party is turning into this One-World-Government, Obama-worships-Satan, Jesus-opposes-climate-bill mélange. ...

Now, the man on the stand he wants my vote
He’s a-runnin’ for office on the ballot note
He’s out there preachin’ in front of the steeple
Tellin’ me he loves all kinds-a people
(He’s eatin’ bagels
He’s eatin’ pizza
He’s eatin’ chitlins).

President Andrew Jackson would have opposed the Federal Reserve!

The liberals are quite correct. The GOP that they groomed and formed is going to be taken apart, state by state, and reformed as their own worst nightmare!

From my front porch, I can see November!

Milbank assumes that his version of a moderate Republican will either not vote in November or vote for a Democrat based on their faltering allegience to a party trending wholly conservative

Well, that's the question, alright.

Since Common Tator is in heaven and can't post anymore (as far as I know), I've been standing up for his view that winning statewide elections with 40% of the voters (us) is impossible, so that we MUST have either DINOs or RINOs, or some combination of the two groups, voting for our guy in order to win.

JimRob said the other day that I was "trolling". I don't think it's trolling to say that if no RINOs (and no DINOs) vote for you, you will lose in most districts, and in all states, in the country.

I therefore support nominating the most conservative candidate that can win in all cases.

How conservative that is depends on the state, and the district.

In California statewide, for example, nominating the most conservative candidate who can win a GOP primary is probably a mistake, since that candidate can't beat a Democrat. And so on.

I wish Ray were still here.

Republicans should ask Dana Milbank's opinion, and then do the exact opposite.

Dana Milbank’s employer “newspaper”, The Washington Post, is the one that is becoming “unglued”. It keeps losing circulation (8 percent last year alone) and will soon be down to a small remaining core of liberal Caucasians who read it because it reinforces their worldview.

So he took conservative positions 84% of the time but on the crucial votes, the BIG votes, he went left.

Lindsey Graham (Rino-SC) got an ACU score of 82% last year. It's too bad that we don't have another shot at him until '12.

When he (Bennett) boo-hooed about the process (which he benefitted from in the past), he said he didn’t want his CAREER in politics to end like this -
NO MORE CAREER POLITICIANS!!!!

Milbank is the typical clueless liberal.:

“Not once did Beck refer to the big news events of the day, such as Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s visit to the White House or the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.”

Perhaps Beck is not so enamored of Karzai, as is Obama & our State Dept. Hey Dana, corrupt officials visit Obama every day, so what makes Karzai’s visit different & special?

As for the oil spill, maybe Beck believes, like I do, that Washington politicians will do little to stop the leak or clean up the mess.

I live on the Gulf coast, & I can tell you it is the locals who are responding to this disaster, not the Feds. Out of work fishermen, promised jobs helping with the cleanup, are still waiting for those jobs to materialize. The Feds main contribution has been blather.

Have we have ever had a more irresponsible gov’t and president? This is why incumbents are being sent home

Milbank lives in the deep, warm burrow of wealth & privilege, & rarely ventures out. What could possibly be more important than a Karzai visit? Uh, terrorism, invasion of our southern borders, the really bad economy, CLEANING UP the oil spill, & the missing dog that Delta Airlines lost, just to name a few.

FYI, Florida panhandle rental occupancy is at 18%. Normal is 85%. Bear in mind, there is no oil YET on Florida beaches. Unless a miracle happens, the costs of Katrina will be minor compared to this disaster. Its economic effects will last for years. The Gulf Coast will be the new Detroit, only much bigger.

This IS a replay of Katrina. Finger-pointing, no contingency plans, permit requirements waived, no pre-positioned equipment, slow response, & little attention from the President.

On the bright side, its a great time to get a rental on the Gulf. Fantastic prices, no waiting in lines, minimal traffic. (No, I do not have any connection to Gulf tourism, rentals, etc.)

Milbank seems to forget that a seminal moment in Democrat Party history was the election of Obama in November 2008. With that event began the destruction of the Democrat Party and the consolidation of Democrat Socialist Party of America. Centrist Democrats are now having to choose whether to go along with the Marxist actions of the Democrat leadership, or chose something new. Many are chosing something new.

GOP's Utah and Maine conventions show a party coming unglued.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The United States will always have TWO major political parties. In the historical moment in which a "third" party arises, it will come to have actual political power (as opposed to merely being a spoiler) when one of two things happen: (1) it DISPLACES one of the two former major political parties; or (2) it REFORMS (i.e., replaces) one of the two former major political parties.

It's like this: you can build your own house (infrastructure) from the ground up or you can move into a house and then renovate it extensively. Same result = an essentially new house, customized for how you want to use it.

I have never seen so much boohooing over the supposed "end of a political party" as we have witnessed with the Left crying in their soy milk about the "end" of the Republican Party.

Telling.

The GOP is becoming the TEA. "Grand Old Party" is out, "Taxed Enough Already" is in. If the process of reformation does not proceed, and the TEA movement is sufficiently strong, the process of displacement will succeed. That is all.

Don't cry for me, Dana Milbank. We know what we're doing. (And so do you, you little Whig-esque rascal. No wonder you are very skeered.)

Communists believe that America's very existence IS insanity. Nothing strange or crazy there.

The "new" communists will never forgive America for destroying the old communism. They want America to pay with its very existence.

We The People got news for them.

Bennett and company were asked for a bit of support by posting links to our non-profit in some creative way. Not only did they not respond back to us for three months, they sent an intern underling to deliver the message that it was against the law for a senator to do anything like that.

My campaign started that day to get rid of the big idiot.

Now I heard yesterday that Hatch is thinking the SCOTUS candidate might be fine and dandy. I believe Hatch is a bigger idiot than Bennett. His love affair with Teddy boy Kennedy was sickening.
