Pat Buchanan suggests: Too many Jews on U.S. Supreme Court bench
haaretZ ^ | 5/16/10 | staff

American conservative political commentator Pat Buchanan wrote a column titled 'Are liberals anti-WASP' last week, in which he suggested that if Supreme Court justice nominee Elena Kagan is confirmed, there will be a disproportionately large number of Jews on the Supreme Court bench.

In his column for World Net Daily, Buchanan lamented the fact that since 1965, no Democratic president has nominated a black Supreme Court justice, but that "if Kagan is confirmed, Jews, who represent less than 2 percent of the U.S. population, will have 33 percent of the Supreme Court seats."

Roosevelt sought and got credit for nominating the first Jew to the Supreme Court.

Wrong. It was Woodrow Wilson who nominated Justice Louis Brandeis, the first Jew on the Supreme Court. And I don't think there was any great political pressure applied by Jewish groups back in 1915. He turned out to be a pretty good jurist and served a long time.

No law school requirements to take the bar exam.

That was the case in many states until relatively recently. Yes, that change definitely helped the law schools financially.

I can understand every word of every law review article.

You have a good point there in comparison to mathematics, but you have to have a pretty darn good vocabulary and/or a good dictionary in order to understand every word of every law review article.

Every lawyer is a [lobbyist] both nationally and statewide and subject to lobbying restrictions..

I see where you are coming from, but many lawyers do not have connections with any legislators, so how can you fairly say that every lawyer is a lobbyist.

The funds on which the courts operate should come exclusively from taxes on lawyers.

If so, the tax would just be passed along to the clients, thus impeding access to the courts, especially for for people not in a good financial position.

“Why do we on the basis of these remarks accuse Pat Buchanan of bigotry? As a white male Protestant I want more white male Protestants on the court to defend me against the diversity pirates on the court. I did not start out this way, they made me this way. I refuse to unilaterally disarm.

If they move the race war to the court, I will wage war in the court because I want to survive. I will not blame Pat Buchanan for telling the truth. I will not claim racism where none exists but I will insist on having my race, my gender, and my religion represented. I will put the blame where it belongs, on the race mongers who created this situation and not on a courageous messenger who tells us the Emperor has no clothes.”

Bingo. This is exactly what Pat B. meant. That doesn’t mean he isn’t anti-semitic, because I believe he is; however, his point about how our country is changing into a PC mess where a Protestant Whitey is no longer anywhere represented on our highest court, is a valid criticism. This group has become the new minority, or should I say the tyranny of the minority has created this new minority class, which is actually the majority, but you’d never know it.

You can look up words. It doesn't take long. And it proves my point even more strongly. Most people who do productive things (to borrow a phrase from Scalia) actually use the language to communicate complicated ideas. Only in the law and the humanities is language viewed as a tool used to obscure simple ideas to make them appear to be more complicated.

I see where you are coming from, but many lawyers do not have connections with any legislators, so how can you fairly say that every lawyer is a lobbyist.

Doesn't matter. Every lawyer benefits from every law. They have an intimate vested interest in each and every piece of legislation and are de facto lobbyists.

>The funds on which the courts operate should come exclusively from taxes on lawyers.

Wrong. If the tax is progressive (either applied to the fee itself or the total take of the lawyer) it will not effect those who are unable to afford the most expensive lawyers anyway.

Besides, the problem with this country is too much access to the courts. In the abstract, it sounds all nice and noble that it is so easy to sue anybody for any reason, but in practice it's what's bringing us down.

We have far more lawyers per capita than any other country and it's still a good living. There is something very wrong with this picture.

“The politically correct bullcrap and “balancing” has to stop. What matters to the SCOTUS is the Constitution.”

Oh, so it should stop now that there are no Protestants left on the Court. Now it’s got to stop? Let’s get a few Protestants on there (they only founded our country), and then stop.

Tyke, the federal bureaucracy in D.C. is supposed to represent and work for the entire nation. What these people do effects not only D.C. but also Nebraska, Iowa, South Carolina, Maine, etc., etc. Do blacks and Hispanics make up 64% of the national population? Because that’s the only way that your criticism would be apropos.

That's pretty funny. Was it meant to be?

I meant that it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I don't care if the SCOTUS is made up of Protestants (that's my own heritage, too), or Catholics, Jews, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Deists, or atheists, as long as they do what I said:

...understand and execute the job they were appointed to do, namely interpreting the Constitution of the United State, as rightfully amended through the years, in accordance with the intentions of the Founders, and paying heed to the principles on which this Nation was founded and on which it has survived until now.
Any given religion or lack thereof neither qualifies nor disqualifies an individual in that regard. America was founded primarily by Christians and Deists; however, I don't think one has to be a Christian or Deist to understand the founding spiritual principles. Those transcend religious boundaries.

It seems that my lapse is even worse than you point out. I had it in my head that the first was Felix Frankfurter which means that I had not only forgotten Brandeis but Benjamin Cardozo as well.

Thanks for the correction.

"Assuming that Kagan is approved, rather likely, there will be three liberal female members from three different NYC boroughs, Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx."

Ouch. And Sotomayor replaced a Queen.

I wonder about Pat why smear a whole race ....

It really DOES make ya wonder; don't it!

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind.

The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings.

This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the 'servant of servants', and they will be, until that curse is removed."

Brigham Young-President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877- Extract from Journal of Discourses.

Here are two examples from their 'other testament', the Book of Mormon.

2 Nephi 5: 21    'And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.'

Alma 3: 6    'And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.'

August 27, 1954 in an address at Brigham Young University (BYU), Mormon Elder, Mark E Peterson, in speaking to a convention of teachers of religion at the college level, said:

"The discussion on civil rights, especially over the last 20 years, has drawn some very sharp lines. It has blinded the thinking of some of our own people, I believe. They have allowed their political affiliations to color their thinking to some extent.I think I have read enough to give you an idea of what the Negro is after."

"He is not just seeking the opportunity of sitting down in a cafe where white people eat. He isn't just trying to ride on the same streetcar or the same Pullman car with white people. It isn't that he just desires to go to the same theater as the white people. From this, and other interviews I have read, it appears that the Negro seeks absorption with the white race. He will not be satisfied until he achieves it by intermarriage."

"That is his objective and we must face it. We must not allow our feelings to carry us away, nor must we feel so sorry for Negroes that we will open our arms and embrace them with everything we have. Remember the little statement that we used to say about sin, 'First we pity, then endure, then embrace'...."

(Rosa Parks would have probably told Petersen under which wheel of the bus he should go sit.)

1967, (then) Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson said,

"The Communist program for revolution in America has been in progress for many years and is far advanced. First of all, we must not place the blame upon Negroes. They are merely the unfortunate group that has been selected by professional Communist agitators to be used as the primary source of cannon fodder."

We are told that on June 8, 1978, it was 'revealed' to the then president, Spencer Kimball, that people of color could now gain entry into the priesthood.

According to the church, Kimball spent many long hours petitioning God, begging him to give worthy black people the priesthood. God finally relented.

Sometime before the 'revelation' came to chief 'Prophet' Spencer Kimball in June 1978, General Authority, Bruce R McConkie had said:

"The Blacks are denied the Priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty.

The Negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow there from, but this inequality is not of man's origin, it is the Lord's doings."

(Mormon Doctrine, pp. 526-527).

When Mormon 'Apostle' Mark E Petersen spoke on 'Race Problems- As they affect the Church' at the BYU campus in 1954, the following was also said:

"...if the negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory."

When Mormon 'Prophet' and second President of the Church, Brigham Young, spoke in 1863 the following was also said:

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so."

(Journal of Discourses, Vo. 10, p. 110)

More to the point, liberals, who represent 30% of the US population, will have half the SCOTUS seats.

Then SOMEone on the Court will be a half-assed Conservative.

Pat is the “conservative” bogeyman the Leftists like to promote as the face of conservatism to keep liberal Jewish people ‘on the plantation’.

What a bunch of identity politics garbage.

The law is the law.

My interests and view of the law is promoted and defended far more by a CONSERVATIVE ORIGANALIST view, than by someone who shares my religious beliefs or racial descent.

In other words, I don't care how many Catholics or Jewish people there are on the SCOTUS, I care how many think the Constitution is a “living” document that means whatever they want it to mean on any given day.

The legal interests of Protestants are NOT only defended by Protestants on the SCOTUS. The legal interests of Catholics are NOT only defended by Catholics on the SCOTUS. The legal interests of Hispanics are NOT only defended by Hispanics on the SCOTUS. Etc, etc.

The legal interests of ALL Americans and ALL religious denomination are defended by an ORIGINALIST on the SCOTUS.

Why are you stalking me?

It sseems you are following my comment page!

Is jewish a race or a religion?
It is both. Judaism is the religion, one that is the oldest practiced in the world today. Jewish can mean a Semitic race or the religion. As a race, Jews trace their roots to Abraham the Hebrew, so technically the race is called Hebrew and is a division of the Semitic races.

I have seen some VERY conservative Jewish judges-but they were in trial courts for the most part where they dealt with absolute scumbags routinely.Tese ivory tower asswipes oughta be locked up in their college campuses and only let out for a walk on a leash.
Judge Irving Kaufman who sentenced the traitorous Rosenbergs to death was a true patriot.Buchanan probably finds that inconvenient.Julius Hoffman(Chicago 8 judge)also.
FWIW I’m Jewish by background.Right wing as hell.I have no use for the 78% of Jews who voted for this abomination in the White House.
The latest liberal Jew who sickens me is Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut-claiming he was in Vietnam when he wasn’t.
I was-and I’m reminded of it all the time because of diseses from Agent Orange-as I’m writing this,I’m recovering from a 4 hour operation to repair damage from AO related cancer surgery/radiation 30 years ago.At least I’m still above ground.Lying about serving in that place is unforgivable. You did,or you didn’t.As long as you didn’t evade serving there’s no less honor no matter where they sent you.Not like there were choices involved.
I can’t figure Buchanan’s problem.I’ve known anti-semites who were never rude to me and I couldn’t figure out why they were so obsessed about Jews.I can’t hate any ethnic/religious group, just individuals. That I can really do.

i think there were more Jewish conservatives then...even though the Brighton beach marxists got all the PR

look at Hollywood...Zanuck, Mayer, Warner(s), Goldwyn....most were conservative and patriotic

today?

Bruckheimer is about the only major Jewish player that is known conservative...studio-producer wise

Melissa Gilbert and David Zucker...David Mamet....it’s a short list...Adam Sandler

not sure how it happened

youth are more radicalized too
