LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - Logansport police arrested a suspect in the rape of a four-year-old girl. Police Chief A.J. Rozzi said officers arrested 22-year-old William R. Wilson the second this afternoon.

Wilson will be charged with three felony counts of child molesting and one felony count of criminal confinment. On May 2, 2010, a Logansport girl was taken from her mother’s boyfriend’s house and then raped and beaten inside a garage about a block away. A neighbor found the girl alone near the corner of Plum Street and Linden Avenue. The victim’s aunt said the family is happy about the arrested and is confident justice will be done.

“It has been crazy and no family should have to go through this. We are just trying to stick together,” said Abby Fife.

Police Rozzi said up to 30 witnesses were questioned before Wilson’s arrest.

“We were able to come up with a description and later an identification of him being on the sidewalk at approximately 4 a.m. on the day this occured,” he explained.

Police first interviewed Wilson last week but he was released because officers did not have enough evidence to arrest him. Rozzi said Wilson does have a prior record, but wouldn’t comment on what other charges he has been arrest for. Rozzi did state Wilson was not a registered sex offender.

“We were working night and day,” said Rozzi. “We concentrate, a lot of times in cases like this, on a family member or somebody that knows the family. We eliminated those pretty quickly and moved on to other people.”

“The mother and the family are faultless,” said Prosecutor Cass County Kevin Enyert. “This is one of the most horrific things that could happen to a mother, other than to find out that your child has been killed. She had nothing to do with this.”

Wilson was in the Cass County Jail and has a $500,000 bond and one million insured. Police said a tremendous out pour of tips from the community helped them in their investigation.

mother's boyfriend

So many stories like this contain that phrase. With more unwed mothers every year, the chances of these abuse stories increasing is high.

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - News Channel 18 is learning more information about the man suspected of raping a four-year-old girl in Logansport.

Logansport Police Chief A.J. Rozzi said 22-year-old William R Wilson II spent most of his life in the Fort Wayne area. He said Wilson was born in Arizona but moved to Indiana when he was a young child.

Cass county prosecutor Kevin Enyeart said Wilson recently lost his job and moved to Logansport to live with his father, in a home on seventh street.

Chief Rozzi said Wilson does have a previous record, but nothing related to child abuse or sexual crimes. He said Wilson had a couple of alcohol-related arrests, but no convictions.

Enyeart filed six felony charges against Wilson Tuesday. That includes two charges of molestation, one charge of burglary, one of criminal confinement and two charges of strangulation and battery on a child. If Wilson is convicted of all charges, he faces up to 126 years in prison.

Chief Rozzi said the four-year-old victim was in the Logansport police office earlier today. He said she’s doing very well, considering the circumstances, and physically she is looking much better.
