First-time candidate Tim Burns in Pennsylvania raised $80,000 for his congressional campaign in 72 hours. Sean Duffy, an unknown candidate from Wisconsin, raised about $40,000.
How did they do it? Each got an endorsement on Facebook from Sarah Palin.
A review of Palins Facebook page shows that the former Alaska governor has endorsed 15 candidates on the social network. All but four are men, and all but one are Republican (Palin supported the conservative party candidate in the NY-23 congressional race).
For better-known candidates, a Palin endorsement carries the implied support of the grassroots Tea Party activists. Sometimes those endorsements come with personal appearances. Palins endorsement of Rick Perry in Texas, for example, helped attract 10,000 people to a rally earlier this year on Super Bowl Sunday for his campaign for governor. Perry defeated Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison several weeks later.
In the case of Sean Duffy, a small-town district attorney, Palins support may have been decisive. Duffy was challenging Rep. David Obey, a Wisconsin Democrat who is among the longest-serving House members. After Palin took to Facebook to endorse Duffy in February, his fundraising exploded. About 300 individual contributions arrived the first day. At the end of the first week, Duffy had raised $30,000, with thousands more arriving the following weeks. By the beginning of May, Obey had announced his retirement.
When Palin endorsed Tim Burns, who is vying to pick up the long-held Democratic seat of Rep. Jack Murtha in Pennsylvania, he reportedly raised $80,000 in the 72 hours afterwards. Asked to confirm that amount, spokesman Kent Gates would only say the campaigns online fundraising operation was very successful the week of the endorsement.
Palins success on Facebok suggests that with more traditional approaches, shed be able to raise even more money. Yet so far she has shown little interest in moving beyond social media.
I think Palins Facebook endorsements are definitely unique, but the fact that she leans on that as her only platform is limiting her potential, said a GOP operative very familiar with online fundraising who spoke on the condition of anonymity as to not disrupt relationships. I would salivate at the chance to get my hands on her email list, but she doesnt have one.
Here are the 15 candidates endorsed by Palin over the social networking website:
* Susana Martinez for governor of New Mexico, May 16
* Nikki Haley for governor of South Carolina, May 14
* Carly Fiorina for Senate in California, May 6
* Tom Emmer for governor of Minnesota, April 29
* Tim Burns for Congress in Pennsylvania, April 26
* Vaughn Ward for Congress in Idaho, March 29
* Adam Kinzinger for congress in Illinois, March 29
* Allen West for Congress in Florida, March 29
* Sean Duffy for Congress in Wisconsin, Feb. 17
* Rick Perry for governor of Texas, Jan. 20
* Michele Bachmann for Congress in Minnesota, Jan. 20
* John McCain for Senate in Arizona, Jan. 20
* Chris Christie for governor of New Jersey, Oct. 27
* Bob McDonnell for governor of Virginia, Oct. 27
* Doug Hoffman for Congress in New York, Oct. 22
**Of note is that Pappas neglected to mention Scott Brown and Rand Paul, two candidates Governor Palin also endorsed**

Didn't she raise a reported $500,000 for Michelle Bachmann at a fund raising dinner, after their appearance together at that rally in Minnesota last month?
she can raise money without traveling? good for her and her family.

That, and she’s probably saving other means campaigning and fundraising for the November elections.
Doing exactly what she said she was going to do.
What also is not mentioned in the Article is the fund raisers Sarah has done for county and state GOPers. And the numerous meet and greets Sarah has had. You know those private ones.
and the funds she has raised for causes like pro-life and NRA
The article neglected to mention the Target list SarahPAC put out. The one in W.VA is a casualty of who was one the list too.
I thought of those but try to seperate them from the political stuff.
she is a great fundraiser and gives anyone she endorses near instant press coverage
They say that men are afraid of these "strong women."
But show me any women stronger than Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Gov Jan Brewer, etc., etc., etc.
Those women are strong, really strong.
I'm not afraid of any of them.
Pappas also left out Gov. Palin’s endorsements of Rand Paul and Scott Brown.

I think what Palin is doing is conserving her supporters money. she is not asking for money simple to ask for money as many politicians do. But is only asking for money when it is a needed. As the NOV elections are getting closer Palin’s Pac has ramped up fund raisers.
I think Palin understands esp with the economy her supporters only have so much to give.
I could be wrong
Well, the good thing about having so many women in congress, they don’t generally sleep with their interns.
Cindie
Where’s the gal from CO?
She endorses Burns right now, but Russell in the general.
Scott Brown is out campaigning for Burns! Yeah!!
Remember when the DC elites pooh-poohed her “death panels” statement on FB.
She’s come a long way baby!!! ;)
“And yes I know it from WaPo.”
