Perhaps the biggest surprise of the expedition came when ornithologist Neville Kemp spotted a pair of new imperial pigeons (Ducula sp. nov.) with feathers that appear rusty, whitish and gray.I read the article closely and at no point does it claim that this is a new SPECIES of bird, which is rare today coming from such a split-happy ornithological community.
It sounds like this could be a new race of imperial pigeon, or at least a clinal variation.
A great and exciting find!!!!!!
