Pope's urging brings Gaza blockade to forefront
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | May 13, 2009 | Ilene R. Prusher & Safwat Al-Kahlout

With no clear guidelines for what Israel will allow in, aid groups have run into trouble with everything from 90 tons of pasta to nutritional bars mistranslated as steel bars.

Though the rockets and shells have fallen quiet in Gaza since the January war with Israel, the prices of cooking fuel and many foods have skyrocketed. Due to both the war's aftermath and the tight restrictions Israel enforces at the checkpoints on Gaza's border, many Gazans are tightening their belts – literally.

...................

The Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has served as a way to pressure Hamas since the militant group seized power in 2007, has until recently has been out of the international spotlight. But now it is moving to the forefront of pressing Israeli-Palestinian issues.

Pope Benedict XVI, during his visit to Bethlehem on Wednesday, specifically mentioned the plight of Gazans, telling them: "Please be assured of my solidarity with you in the immense work of rebuilding which now lies ahead and my prayers that the embargo will soon be lifted."

A week ago United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon also called for an end to the ban, which prevents all but the most basic supplies from entering Gaza, saying it was "unacceptable."

Under increasing international pressure on Israel to change its policy regarding shipments into the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to promise US President Barack Obama when they meet next week that Israel will remove all restrictions on foodstuffs headed for Gaza, aides said.

which prevents all but the most basic supplies from entering Gaza

This is contradicted by other information that says all but war materiel gets into Gaza and that there are no food shortages, medical shortages, etc.

There are missile shortages.

I have been pinged, and I see no evidence supporting that Ratzinger ever was a nazi.

My father was a teen during WWII, but graduated high school in 1945. He joined the Navy out of HS and entered in late 45, iirc. His discharge lists him as a WWII vet. He was not, he’ll tell you. He was simply within the dates they used to describe the war era.

Was he a WWII vet? He says no. His paperwork says yes.

The pope is a dope.

When I was about ten years old, sitting at breakfast with my family, the news came over the radio that Pope Pius XII had died. With a flash of juvenile brilliance, I commented,

"Popey - Dopey!"

My Daddy glared at me as ONLY my Daddy could glare and said in his most stern and severe voice,

"He was a great man. And he's dead!"

I was a little confused because we were Baptists and I thought we were against Catholics. But, that morning, he showed me that it is possible to have respect, admiration, and even love for people with whom we have differences.

My Daddy was also a great man.

This clearly shows intent.

I was once of the belief that any stick is good enough to beat a Catholic with. Obviously, some still believe that.

Already did - and none of them say what you falsely claimed. We have been through this several times before. And each time anyone demanded evidence of your claims, you failed to post any - because it didn’t exist.

“Or don’t and keep defending the indefensible.”

You are the only one defending the indefensible. That’s why you could never prove your false claims. You failed each and every time.

Your answer to what I read:

"Please be assured of my solidarity with you in the immense work of rebuilding which now lies ahead and my prayers that the embargo will soon be lifted."

You appear to have stepped on your crank leaping to a conclusion. The Pope's comments you cited were from a year ago when even food and humanitarian goods were being embargoed. Even the Israeli's agreed with his position since food and humanitarian goods are now flowing....Yo.

Anything specific in my post? Or just a general disagreement with the whole concept of mutual respect?

It has become painfully obvious that some Roman Catholic apologists can read the black and white print and not understand the words.

Certainly that's the case with Ratzinger's 2001 letter and Crimen Sollicitationis. That's why I linked to both documents and invited anyone to read them for themselves.

Those with eyes to see will read the words the words there which encourage secrecy, lies, cover-ups and evasion.

Others will remain blind.

"Those with eyes to see will read the words the words there which encourage secrecy, lies, cover-ups and evasion."

That aptly describes your persistent misrepresentation of both documents. Like your misinterpretation and misrepresentation of Scripture, the Catechism, and even the life history of many Catholics, you have chosen to selectively report details out of context in ways that maximize your agenda of falsehoods. I am not going to discuss or debate your falsehoods, only confront and correct them. One cannot have an honest discussion with dishonest persons.

That is a fine, humanitarian stand to take. Was the Pope as steadfast and humanitarian when rockets were falling on Israel? If so, then I accept his position.

It has become painfully obvious that anti-Catholics can lie even to the point of claiming something is in a document when it is not.

“Certainly that’s the case with Ratzinger’s 2001 letter and Crimen Sollicitationis.”

As we see in how particular anti-Catholics completely make up something that is not in Ratzinger’s 2001 letter or Crimen Sollicitationis.

“That’s why I linked to both documents and invited anyone to read them for themselves.”

That’s why anti-Catholics repeatedly make false claims rather than actually present proof.

“Those with eyes to see will read the words the words there which encourage secrecy, lies, cover-ups and evasion.”

Those with eyes to see will read the word and see they don’t say what anti-Catholics lyingly claim they do.

“Others will remain blind.”

Anti-Catholics are so blind that they believe lying is something God wants - as long as you’re lying against His Church.
