Skolnick (Testament, Savatage) blows King out of the water.

I have his concert from Gdansk, Poland as a protected recording on my DVR. That man is unbelievable. Just picked up his album, “On an Island” for $7 at Sav-on. LOL

I never thought Morello was all that good. I DO think Ty Tabor from Kings X is horribly underrated.

Frank ZappaZappa and Belew, it don't get much better than that.

Yep, Ty Tabor is yet another one that flew under my (and Gibson's) radar. For that matter, there's Damon Johnson of Brother Cane that may not be in the Top 50, but he's a damn sight better than the slacker sh**heels that made the list.
Young Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, the dude from Cry of Love, Paul Gilbert of Racer X/Mr. Big as well as solo work...and what about Joe Walsh? Was he on the list? Was Mark Knopfler on it? What about Dave Matthews? His music sucks, but he's a talented guitarist.
Hell, for that matter, where's Roy Clark? I saw him somewhere years ago playing some blindingly fast flamenco stuff. Yeah, Roy Clark!

It’s the usual list in any “Top — Guitarists.” Every list online, and every list in a magazine I’ve read, the usual “top ten” are included.

>> my favorite Gibby box player Webb Wilder next month.
Your username definitely supports your statement!
Webb's a favorite of mine, too! You should visit his message board if you don't already... got some real interesting characters hanging around there.
In fact, here's a link to the
Webb Board located at
WebbWilder.com. All nice and convenient-like. :-)

Thanks. Yes he and Campbell were underrated.
Hate to admit not really familiar with Stevie Ray Vaughn; but Jimi Hendrix was a work of art; although he was out of control in his mind most of the time.

Exactly. They also forgot John Petrucci who can play circles around most of those listed.Like somebody on here has said before, players like Petrucci are technically flawless, but lack soul in their playing.

This list is totally for the baby boomer generation. They have a tendency to overstate the skill of their heroes and the quality of their music. I'm not a fan, but the newer heavy/death metal guitarists blow any of the 60s/70s rock guitarists away. The classical guitarists were also not well-represented.
I believe lists like these should be separated by style of music played. There are metal lists, there's plain top lists, there's even a metal twin-guitar player list. But genres should be separated.

I know if you can believe it. He was good at picking talent too.
Also, one of the most underrated and talented people who didn’t receive as much credit as due was Stephen Bruton, now deceased. Heck of a song writer and hell of a banjo player. He helped write the songs on Crazy Heart along with that other guy who knows talent, TBone. They grew up together. Not only was Bruton talented; he was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to know. Just ask anyone from his hometown.

While I agree with you regarding classical guitarists being phenominal; I do not underrate Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Stephen Bruton etc. They have the wonderful gifted talent of being able to pick up many instruments and play them. Absolutely amazing.

He also did Big Love a capella, with just his guitar.I've seen video of that on YouTube and it was incredible.

Yes! Roy Clark playing "Malaguena". The man was (is he still alive?) phenomenal, not just the simple country bumpkin so many remember from Hee-Haw. Years back, I saw him play this on some Nashville morning show and couldn't believe a country guy could play flamenco.

And while we're at it, I want to give props to an
extremely underrated, and largely undiscovered guitarist, my old college buddy Steve Sheroan. "Speed-o", as we used to call him, plays in a Nashville band that I believe is called August Moon. Anyone who gets a chance to see him will definitely walk away impressed.
