South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has thrown his political operation into gear on behalf of Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle, bundling money for her and laying out cash through his PAC in the week after Angle won the GOP nomination to challenge Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
DeMint has already raised more than $60,000 for Angle and his Senate Conservatives Fund PAC has spent $54,680 in independent expenditures this week, largely to purchase an e-mail list for the campaign.
DeMint, who has backed a number of conservative insurgents in Senate primaries, favored Angle and real estate developer Danny Tarkanian in the Nevada race, but didn't endorse a candidate.
Sen. DeMint was neutral in the Nevada primary because there was more than one conservative in the race, said Senate Conservatives Fund spokesman Matt Hoskins. Once the voters nominated Sharron Angle, he didn't want to waste any time getting behind her campaign.
Angle wasnt the first choice of national Republicans, who supported former state GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden into the race. Angle defeated Lowden and Tarkanian in a June 8 vote after Lowden made a series of campaign errors and the Club for Growth ran ads supporting Angles campaign.

I wonder how long until the DemocRATS make it “illegal” for a sitting Senator to do this.
“Contrast this with the RINOs who ran to Politico to separate themselves from Angle’s views yesterday.”
We’ll be taking names of those RINOs...
The RINOs are showing themselves. Good. Vote them out -— her election and support by REAL conservatives says it all. The Republican Party is full of rats!
I love this man, DeMint. We need more just like him.
It’s great DeMint jumped right in to support her.
She wants to privatize Social Security.
Eliminate the Energy and Education departments.
Pull the United States out of the United Nations.
And, she thinks the Second Ammendment has something to do with defending the Constitution.
Any Repub running away from her needs to be targeted and removed next election. I hope none of my favorites are on that list. If they are, they won’t stay my favorites for long.
DeMint is getting to be my favorite for 2012. He fights.
Her statements about armed rebellion and taking out Harry Reid were impolitic, and probably earned her a visit from the Secret Service. I do wish she wouldn’t write Harry Reid’s attack ads for him. When I saw that, it made me cringe. Now that she’s the candidate, she needs to dial down the nutty a little bit, and talk about beating Harry Reid at the ballot box.
At the very least, talk about armed rebellion against your opponent does not convey much confidence in your own ability to win the election. It was one of the most over the top statements I’ve ever seen from a political candidate. Most certainly on our side.
Nonsense.
Which part?
Am I mistaken about her comment?
I support her against Reid, and I supported her in the primary, too.
But I heard crickets after that comment. I am concerned that she just cemented the all of the negative framing of her from Reid with that comment, and I’m afraid her fundraising, which had been off to a good start, is going to begin to suffer as she plays right into Reid’s hands. She did the Democrats’ work for them and showed us just what to do to make a negative attack stick to you.
It may be nonsense to you, but you’re not an undecided voter in Nevada who is hearing a lot of bad stuff about Angle now, and wondering if it’s true.
I’ll let you worry about political correctness.
The “establishment” Repubs mentioned in the article include: Thune (S.D.), Lugar (Ind.), Graham (S.C.), Alexander (TN), Hatch (UT), Crapo (ID), Sessions (Ala.), Cornyn (TX), Inhofe (OK).
They’re already trying to “make” her over. Excerpt:
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), another conservative, said he doesnt support eliminating the departments, but sympathized with candidates like Angle and Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky who have made similar pleas on the campaign trail. You are out there and you are a citizen of America and you are concerned about the country and some of these departments are top heavy, inefficient and unproductive - and you get to Washington and you find out you cant make that change, Sessions said. But to say that somebody who expressed concern about the departments that are not productive ought to be eliminated, I dont think its out of mainstream, I think most Americans would tend to agree.
Cornyn, the NRSC chairman, said in a few weeks Angles campaign will be grounded, the Nevada media will have 100 percent access to her and shell be explaining her views clearly in public. Shes going to have to defend herself, Cornyn said. Part of our efforts are going to help her with staffing and put her in a position to be able to withstand the carpet-bombing we all know is coming from the Reid campaign. Thats the only way Sen. Reid can win is a negative campaign.

“Am I mistaken about her comment?”
Actually, yes.
Sargent at the WaPo took what she said out of context. You’d have to listen to the audio to hear what she really was saying, and intended.

It’s not a matter of political correctness.
It’s a matter of political suicide.
I was really hoping you were going to tell me that I got it all wrong, she was edited, taken out of context, etc.
Who did that? Got names?
I saw video at realclearpolitics.com.
I support her positions 100%, BTW.
I just think she should be sounding like someone leading a political campaign, not an armed rebellion. In either event, she ought not be giving the other side ammunition.
Umm, she didn’t say anything about chickens.
That was Sue Lowden. And Angle is not a Scoentologist.
